Random Thoughts

After being up 27 hours, minus an hour or so nap I had yesterday morning, I just slept an amazing six hours. It reminded of our post hospital naps after both girls were home.

"Project the look on a child’s face when he grasps the answer to some problem he has been striving to understand. It is a radiant look of joy, of liberation, almost of triumph, which is unself-conscious, yet self-assertive, and its radiance seems to spread in two directions: outward, as an illumination of the world—inward, as the first spark of what is to become the fire of an earned pride. If you have seen this look, or experienced it, you know that if there is such a concept as ‘sacred’—meaning: the best, the highest possible to man—this look is the sacred, the not-to-be-betrayed, the not-to-be-sacrificed for anything or anyone."

How can my doggie act like he's 2 years old the day before and the next day look like he's on his death bed.
Been thru it for months now. Lots of money spent. I just don't get it.
Shitty day.

9.2 english lab. our love.

taking him back in to the dr in a few hours. more money but he is like our life these days.
sucks they haven't figured out what is going on with him the last 2 times we took him in.
this time its worse as it's been 7 hours.

Just so weird. 2 weeks of having him be himself... and then wakes up not wanting to do anything , whining when he walks.
yesterday he was wanting to play ball and did.

it has to be more than just arthritis,

It's more than arthritis. I'm assuming bloodwork and xrays have been done. Is he on any meds now? Was the blood work ok or were there issues with the liver, kidneys, electrolytes, etc.?

Stopped and talked to the friend who has 1/2 mil in corvettes and other cars (at least), knowing he is big into Corvettes I asked him if he is going to get a new z06. He is #4 on the list at the local dealership for one, he thinks it will be a couple years though.

Z06's are fun to drive...

The new one looks a bit like a Lambo

He already has a c6 z06 sitting on a storage rack. Along with his 21 z51 and a c5, that is all he has for modern Vettes. Last I knew, his 21 only had 200 miles.

Not yet, at least full body shots. I didn't want a geo tag from the phone to protect his privacy. I plan on it, hopefully next year, with my big dslr. He has quite a few acres where I could take somethere.

x-rays today ...negative.
heart good, not enlarged.
blood work done again...results tomorrow.
gabapentin and assuming blood work is normal a new drug added...carprofen.

He had slightly elevated liver enzymes 1st round. That was the only thing that came back abnormal. Waiting to see new test results.

the ole fucker loves going to the vet...he was his normal self once we got there.

I take gabapentin...it's good stuff.

This is hard from afar and I don't want to step on toes or cause problems but I also want you to be aware...
x-rays today ...negative. Then where's the arthritis? His spine? Spondylosis is painful but that shows up radiographically. Arthritis isn't there 1 min and then gone suddenly.
heart good, not enlarged. Great but may not be the whole story. Have you fed grain free dog foods? Did they measure his pro-BNP (cardiac enzymes) to see if it's his heart?
blood work done again...results tomorrow. Tick borne diseases all negative? (Lymes, Anaplasma, Erhlichiosis, RMSF). Any anemia? Any increase in reticulocytes? Splenic hematomas are common in older labs and bleed internally. Ultrasound can diagnose that and many more things easily. Any new abnormalities?
gabapentin and assuming blood work is normal a new drug added...carprofen. Why gabapentin? It's useful for neurological pain (pinched nerves, slipped disc, etc.) but it's also a sedative. Carprofen is for pain. Is he painful or is he depressed?

He had slightly elevated liver enzymes 1st round. That was the only thing that came back abnormal. Waiting to see new test results. Galliprant is better than carprofen for pain for dogs with liver issues and all older labs have liver issues to some degree. Another reason to get an abdominal ultrasound by a specialist.

the ole fucker loves going to the vet...he was his normal self once we got there. If everything is negative it may be time for a referral to an internal medicine specialist.

Hope this helps.

I appreciate your input Chevs.

I guess based on where they thought the pain was coming from they x-rayed the spine to rule out tumor etc and we were told results were negative.

The gabapectin was prescribed a few weeks back and was working. We had a neurological consult at that time. I guess if this doesn't resolve an MRI is next?
Waiting on the blood work results.

Our pup is in pain today still. :(

He does have DCM and we give him taurine daily.
When he was younger and having skin issues we were told to switch to a grain free diet. What a mistake.
