RIP Pete Rose

Charlie Hustle was an incredible player. I hated it when he and the Big Red Machine took out the Sox in 75. Yes I'm old enough to remember that series well. Too bad the hypocrites who run MLB never saw fit to lift his ban for gambling and admit him to the Hall of Fame. Now they are in bed with gambling apps and that's fine and dandy. Oh well, I bet (see what I did there) he and Shoeless Joe are having a good laugh about that today. RIP Pete Rose.

I'm glad you said something about the gambling thing. I'm somewhere lower than even a casual baseball fan so I didn't feel like I could speak even remotely intelligently about it but it sure did sound like a bunch of shit to me. But this is also coming from a guy who thinks McGwire, Bonds and Sosa should all be in there too.

I admired Pete Rose "the player." But he forfeited his right for HOF enshrinement with his gambling and I have always felt he should not be let in as long as he is alive. Now he has served his sentence and if the ban is lifted, so be it.

He put the game at risk and he risked the careers of his players for the sake of his bets. For a better understanding of how I feel about Pete Rose, read this:

I think you should be allowed to bet on your own team to win, straight money line. I fail to see why that would be a problem.

I can see where it may be a problem if you as manager play a player that should be given the night off simply because you’re trying to win a bet.

While I agree with never putting Rose in the HOF so long as he was alive, MLB has to be pretty embarrassed by the fact their all-time hits leader, all-time and single-season HR leader, and a 7-time Cy Young Award winner are not in the HOF.

I mean, tell that to Tom Browning, who led the league in starts every year Rose was the manager, and ended up blowing out his shoulder.

Good point. A player, non-manager?

I don't know the answer to this, but is all the evidence about what Bart Giamatti knew about Rose's gambling now public knowledge? Is it certain that he never bet against his team, or bet point spreads where he was trying to keep their run totals down, which could have led to a loss? I'd favor putting him in the HOF because what he did as a player isn't tainted and that's where he's one of the greats.

Bonds and Clemens and the players who did PED's are a different discussion because their accomplishments as players were altered.

The only known facts are that Rose originally lied about betting on baseball. He later owned up to that fact he did bet on baseball but claimed that he only ever bet on the Reds to win - this is his claim, not a proven fact.

He also agreed to his lifetime ban as that agreement contained language allowing him to petition for reinstatement which he exercised multiple times to no avail.

Bill Lee was asked his opinion of Rose and said something like "I think he should have hung upside down from meathooks through his achilles for
all eternity. Not for betting on baseball, but for what he did to Ray Fosse in the all-star game".

I agree with Lee. He ended up killing the kid's career deliberately for his own ego. He assassinated Fosse and I never spent
two seconds thinking that he was anything but a knuckle-dragging Ahole with no conscience after that. If it was a world series game or
whatever I wouldn't blame him for taking him out, but it was an exhibition game. Big difference.

Fuck Pete Rose. Shitty human being.

I'd have a tough time arguing against any of this post. I'm not pro Pete Rose to the Hall, but I'm definitely against the absolute hypocrisy of pro sports still punishing gamblers while taking BILLIONS from the scum bag fanduel, draftking, whoeverthe f*ck.
