I'll just say I knew it! (it's the end of OBX I guessed might be attractive to you).
Carova is just north of where we go in Corolla. No roads there, (Drive out on the beach) just miles of beautiful beaches and wild horses. Great spot, great seclusion. Perfect. Spent one week almost at the Virginia Border (marked by a wire fence running out into the ocean so you can't drive thru) back around 2005.
Cheers
Admittedly I had very little to do with the travel plans -- everything on the OBX leg of the trip was arranged by my mother in law, but she does enjoy her seclusion (their usual holidays are hiking ones in VT and Canaduh), so it doesn't surprise me if she picked such a spot.
I've never spent much time in North Carolina and what little I have spent was decidedly depressing. Alarmingly high levels of poverty from what I saw, with clusters of very high wealth. Not much middle class type living where I've traveled, but as I said it isn't very extensive so I might be very wide off the mark. Either way, I'm sure the Mrs and the children will have a wonderful time there and I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever see them again (kids have been telling me how awesome air con is!)
