The 2026 Draft

Our picks as of 11//2/'25

9. '26 picks: After trading Kyle Dugger and defensive lineman Keion White along with seventh-round picks, and receiving sixth-round picks in return, the Patriots now have the following selections in next year's draft.

  • First round
  • Second round
  • Third round
  • Fourth round
  • Fourth round (from Chiefs, 2025 draft-day trade)
  • Fifth round
  • Sixth round (from 49ers)
  • Sixth round (from Steelers)
  • Sixth round (from Chiefs, Joshua Uche trade)
  • Sixth round
If White is active for seven games in San Francisco, the Patriots will get their original seventh-round pick back in that trade. The seventh-round pick the Patriots traded alongside Dugger to Pittsburgh was originally acquired from the Saints in exchange for defensive tackle Davon Godchaux.

That's a lot of picks. And while it's nice to think that the majority of the picks will yield competent starters, perhaps a pro-bowl player or maybe even an All-Pro, the reality is that for all teams, the rate of draft success is far below 50% (league-wide, the percentage of draftees that make the opening day roster is around 30%).

If the Patriots want to trade away some of this draft capital to bolster this year's roster, I'm all for it.

I recall Belichick trading away a couple of draft picks for the known commodity that was Wes Welker. When you see a player on another team that you already know has NFL level talent and work ethic, it's a better use of the draft pick than taking a shot at a college player. Success against 18-22 year old players at the college level is one thing, doing it at the next level requires physical, mental and emotional maturation, and sometimes that doesn't happen, even for highly touted athletes.

The Commanders just lost three good players in last night's game (Jayden Daniels, Marshon Lattimore, and Luke McCaffrey), and they appear to be destined for a high draft pick in 2026.

They also have very few picks, and might be looking to trade down in the first round.

It might be possible for the Patriots to move up to get someone like Francis Mauigoa to bolster the right side of the offensive line. He's been projected as a top-10 pick, so there's little likelihood of him being around when the Patriots pick. If he's still on the board when the Commanders pick, I'd like to see a move up.

Going by the rumors at the trade deadline the first pick in the draft will be a DE/Edge player.

Drafttek list 7 first round potential DE/Edge players.

Also Bert Breer claimed that all their potential trades would only be pick swaps. They really wanted to keep all those low round picks.
????

ESPN has an article that says pro scouts see Mauigoa as a guard.

Same article states there are questions regarding all the QBs.

I would be happy with any of the top offensive linemen as an upgrade on the right side.

Given the premium placed on QBs, WRs, and CBs the last few years, I expect the first five picks to come from those positions. So there should be some good offensive linemen available with picks 6-12 or so.

But if a trade doesn't happen, and we get a Logan Mankins type guard with the 32nd pick, I'll be content.

I think this is supposed to be a down year for both QB and WR, and a strong year at the top of the draft for edge rushers.

Good points:
  1. I inadvertently left the edge position out of my list. I still expect the first five picks, and perhaps more, to come out of those four position groups: QB, WR, CB, and ED.
  2. My original thought was that teams like Washington and Tennessee, which already have their franchise QBs and will be drafting near the top, would be good candidates for trading down. But in a weak draft, they might not choose to do that.

Per Google, the top right offensive tackles in the draft are as follows;
The number shown is their projected position in the draft per Draftrek.

F. Mauigoa. Miami. 6
Spencer Fano Utah 10
Kadyn Proctor Alabama 25
Isaiah World Oregon 29 (was playing LOT yesterday)
Trevor Goosby Texas 32
Caleb Lomb Utah 33
G. Dunker. Iowa 49
Caleb Tierman Northwestern 70

Having typed that, the earliest I can see them picking a tackle would be Dunker or Tierman.
Also don’t really believe google delineated left vs right since both OTs from Utah are listed.

There are two draft threads now.
Can they be merged?
Anybody??

I think he'll be a guard but

I've read 2 expert scouts who say they have Mendoza as a 3rd or 4th round pick. I was dumbfounded since so many have high hopes for him.
This should be a wild draft.

There's something about Mendoza that gives me a hint of Mac Jones, can't really explain that.
