That validates why I haven't listened to Bedard in 5 years. Did he expect the best EDGE and the best OT when picking 31 and 63?

i've been listening to Sirius nfl channel lot and several current/former executives have been commenting about how this draft especially had maybe 15 1st round caliber players in it and very few if any have 32 first round caliber players.

He was pretty balanced on his take on the draft overall.

But he was super grumpy in his most recent pod with Cattles. Complained about everything, even hacking on the questions coming from paid subscribers multiple times. He was full-on PManSing, just bitchy to the point where it was jarring. Bizarre.

If "few if any" have 32 first round caliber players, they need a different label for it. If words mean anything, "first round caliber player" should more or less mean "in an average modern NFL draft, this would likely be one of the consensus 32 top draft picks.". Some drafts may have 50 and some may have 15, but if it doesn't work out to be about 32, that's the wrong label and craptastic communication for an industry that exists specifically for communicating clearly.

Maybe something like:
  • Elite
  • Blue Chip
  • Can't Miss
  • [No Doubt/Slam Dunk] 1st Rounder (vs first round caliber)
might better communicate their meaning?

I consider a “first rounder” to mean someone who projects as an above average starter.
 
Tony Pauline claims the Patriots were interested in trading up on Day 3 for Texas defensive end Trey Moore, whom the Dolphins took at No. 130. New England had given up their 125th overall pick to move up three spots in the first round and would’ve had to trade up from the fifth round to land Moore. They didn’t end up selecting a pass rusher until the seventh round, when they took Boston College’s Quintayvious Hutchins just before the final compensatory picks.

Why don't you think this year's picks will have immediate impact?

Lomu will come in and likely be slotted right in as our 6th OL in jumbo packages. He'll be the backup to both Campbell and Moses (1 35 the other had a knee injury). I think it's fair to expect he'll get some decent play time.

Jacas will come in and likely be slotted right into a trio of edge rushers and the potential is there for him to be the best of the 3. And I don't even mean this to over hype Jacas but Landry might not have much left and Jones isn't some super star.

Raridon only has to beat out Hill 3 years in the league and a total 33 catches 288 yards. I know everyone talked him up as a blocker but frankly I'll be disappointed if Raridon doesn't have a better career (though as a 3rd rounder it might take a year or 2 to develop).

Skipping the fourth round I'll just stop here. But to me I think there is plenty of opportunities for our rookie class to contribute.

Even with the bringing in of better players during FA, the talent level on the team gave rookies more opportunities. We were also drafting higher overall due to wining only 4 games.
This year the team is more talent on the team and our picks were toward the end of the rounds.
I think Jacas and Radidon will be either starters or in the starting rotation.
Lomu will be a valuable backup this year and a starter next year.
There could be a surprise amongst the others.

We all knew Lomu was drafted to sit behind Moses. Eli Raridon, whom I loved as the pick, has potential no one is denying that. He is coming from a run-heavy Notre Dame offense to a more complex one in New England. Injuries have been a big issue every year at Notre Dame. I agree that Jackass has the best chance to start. Is he the player you think will make an impact?

You're splitting hairs you need to be playing to have an impact. But just to be clear for you these guys will have an impact.
