So Kerrigan mentioned the skins defense was confused by the Pats running multiple plays out of the same formations. I charted every play you guys ran through your first 8 drives and noticed the same thing.

I put up a, hopefully easy to digest, post about the different runs McDaniels ran out of the bunch formation.

You guys also screwed us over with the 'power O' run quite a bit. I was going to post that tomorrow with the full breakdown of the game.

That was an informative article. Thanks for posting it.

Very nice breakdown. Thanks for posting it.

In the NFL there are certain things you just can’t defend. Jameis Winston making pinpoint throws to a 6’5 power forward, Brady throwing darts underneath to Edelman against zone coverage, Gronk going up and getting one, etc. But to not be able to stop simple run concepts has really put us in a bind. By late 3rd quarter we were in a 4-4 defense trying to desperately stop the run game and left 3 guys outside the box to protect everything else.

Good stuff. I loved how you had Culliver making a "business decision" in refusing to engage Blount.

It's gotta be tough for you to dissect a game like that, particularly that first drive, but you did a nice job.

You should definitely read AWTE's opus on the pats passing game pinned at the top of the page here.

He does an outstanding job of breaking down the scheme they use and I'm sure you'll find examples of what you saw broken down there.

Excellent stuff!

I love seeing breakdowns like this. Appreciate the insight most definitely.

2nd - thanks, I looked quick, great stuff and I will digest this later at home while in the Archie Bunker Chair.

Thanks guys, much appreciated :toast:

Quick question: has McDaniels been blocking with his WRs like this the whole year?

Yes, WRs blocking has been part of the offense for many years, (not necessarily every play, though).

BB points out the WR's blocking and says "They don't get enough credit" on his breakdown segment here.

WR blocking goes back to Charlie Weis, here.

Even Randy Moss blocked some (he was good at it when he tried).
