The Cover Is Better Than The Original Version

Original: The Montgolfier Brothers
Cover: David Gilmour 2024

I was out rucking yesterday, and instead of listening to an audiobook (my normal practice, but I'm between books at the moment) I dialed up some music - my Pink Floyd playlist on YouTube.

I must have done close to three miles listening to Shine On You Crazy Diamond, but I couldn't tell you if it was uphill or downhill, woods or street. I never noticed the miles or the pounds I was carrying in my pack. I was totally captivated by the music - Gilmour can be entrancing at times.

His new album is just fantastic. Searing guitar licks abound. I've been playing it over and over.

Thank you for posting that. I sort of knew David was still productive, but hadn't realized there was a new album out. It's available on YouTube Music for free.

I put it on while I was making supper (Papa Murphy's pizza, romaine lettuce, and a glass of vin ordinaire, which for us is an under $10 bottle of Pinot Noir from the supermarket).

I was very impressed on the initial listen to the album, and will have it on again multiple times over the next few days.

Song: Waiting For A Train

Original Artist: Jimmy Rodgers (Written in 1929 - this song is almost 100 years old; Rodgers based it on even older material that originated in Britain.)

Cover Version: Boz Scaggs

Cover Version: Jorma Kaukonen

When I was portaging, I didn't have music with me. I had a big backpack on, and a canoe on my shoulders. Sang Comfortably Numb to myself, and made the 1.25 miles before I knew it.

But Shine would have been good. Wish You Were Here is my favorite Pink Floyd album, and Shine is the band's opus. I will not argue about this, I will only fight you.

No argument here on the magnum opus. However, my favorite album of theirs is DSOTM.

Edit: how much do you estimate you were carrying during the portaging event you described? Canoes are a little bit of a chore to handle on land, as I recall.
