The Golf thread

Hovland appears to be on verge of running away with this. Everyone elsr is either treading water or dropping.
Maybe it's Hovlands orange pants.
Looked like everyone was off to some extent. Hovland just missed two or three birdie putts at the end, while Morikawa came back to earth.

Viktor is the victor, not even close from start to finish.
It finally dawned on me why the orange pants yesterday. He went to Oklahoma State, as did Rikie Fowler, who wore orange pants today.

I figured Fowler has the ‘orange on Sunday’ dibs so Viktor wears it Saturday

schauffle made a run at it. Got it down to 3 and He was 5 clear of 3rd while Hovland wins by 5 so those two came up big the last two rounds

We look at the big paydays that all of the player made this week, $500,000 for last place and $18,000,000 for 1st. Then there are incremental winning from 2nd place down to 29th.

It was also good payday for the caddies. Most make between 5 and 10% of the winnings. Over the last 2 weekends, Viktor's caddie made over $1,000,000.

Today I was playing over a water hazard. I hit my ball and it was a liner. It skimmed the pond 3 times, hit the bank, and popped on to the fairway on the other side of the pond.
I turned to my playing partner and said "that's my Cam Newton shot". He broke out in a smile knowing exactly what I was talking about.

Watched a buddy of mine make a hole in one doing the same thing. Shot never was more than 2 feet high. Skip, Skip, plunk.

I'll try that on the 13th hole. Perfect fit for that shot. Only thing is that I couldn't do it if I tried to do it.
Heading out now for a late afternoon 9. Perfect day, sunny, 75 degrees, dew point at 49 degrees. Just perfect.

played yesterday. I've been trying to get my irons to "work" forever. Last trip to the range I thought I had really worked it out, so was interested to see how it went on the course.
well... on first hole I had a pretty good drive so only needed a sand wedge to get to the hole. I have a habit of coming up short on distance because I'm trying to be very deliberate with my swing, as when I "try harder" it tends to goes all haywire. but otherwise shot was straight with expected loft. lob wedged on and 2 putted.

2nd hole is a par 3 that I've gotten on the green on the tee shot, but my tee shot went 50-50 sideways-forwards so had an 8 iron (for me) shot to the green. I hit this perfect! I was psyched as I thought I had this irons thing down now. shot actually rolled just off back of green but I still didn't mind.

after that... ugh, similar issues as I've had for a while. later I did have another beauty that got me on the green in 2 on a decent length par 4, so that was great.
best thing I can say otherwise is now by "bad" shots are more usable then they used to be. which is to say it'd take me two swings when one should have sufficed.
hope to iron this out (pun intended) this season.

My irons are the best they’ve ever been. I focus on keeping my front arm straight, rotating the shoulders, and shifting my weight forward before I bring my arms forward. Those key things have helped my swing tremendously. My irons were garbage last year. Now my four iron is consistently going 220.

Slicing my driver a bit too much. Need to figure out why I’m leaving the club head open a little too much recently.

Fall golf is the best; playing at 71 degrees is outstanding.

Well, just as I do when swinging a club, I did the exact opposite of what I tell myself to do. I bent over to pick up my ball and clubs and now I'm paying for it.
My back it hurting so I guess I'll be taking some days off.
How many times do I have to tell myself to bend with my knees? Just like l tell myself not to swing hard, then in millisecond I trying to knock the cover off the ball.
Idiot.

The PGA are sure that their Championship concluded before the start of the NFL season. They did this a few years ago and it was deliberate. Before that, the Tour Championship was in late September and the last day conflicted with the NFL and the TV ratings suffered.
Now you have the US Open tennis. They play their men's Championship this Sunday, late afternoon. That will conflict with the NFL and their ratings will suffer.
You would think that they would have learned from the PGA.

You feeling any better?

You gotta love this: The wife and I along with another couple played a couple of weeks ago. Lynn and Suzie had a blast. They finally understood that golf is a social event. It was Suzie’s first time. Lynn stopped playing when our club went under (someday I’ll tell that story) and she didn’t play that often then. Mostly 9 hole couples stuff like the “Chilli Scramble” in the fall. Those were still too much competition for her. This last time we had to wait 45 minutes to tee off so we went to the porch overlooking the 18th green and she had a couple of drinks first. That did the trick. It was 9 holes of hit and giggle but the giggling was real. Why tell you this?

She is sitting here next to me getting the next date set up with Suzie. THAT has never happened before. I told her to set up 3 dates. The cold is coming.

This weekend is our big Oklahoma golf outing. We're playing Jimmie Austin in Norman on Saturday. It's the home course for the OU Golf Team and on my good friend's golfing bucket list. It's by far the most expensive course I have ever played. They only have four open tee times per day for non-members. I'm a bit nervous. I haven't played in a couple weeks because my ankle has been bugging me a little bit but I'm going to give it a go. Then we play a lesser known course on Sunday but it has water on 15 of the 18 holes so I'm bringing plenty of extra balls. :ROFLMAO:

I had to lay off for 9 days because of my back. Last Sunday morning I played 9 and it was one of the better rounds that I've played in a while, 42.

That's not the first time something like that has happened. So, maybe you'll play your best after the layoff.
