The Golf thread

I have started to hit my mid-season slump. Drifting further and further away from that goal of 99. On the upside, next weekend is a BIG golf weekend. For twenty some plus years, my father in law had organized a huge golf trip. At it's peak the number was in the 30s and we would rent a charter bus that would take us somewhere within a four hour radius to play a couple courses. It was an awesome time. All of the original crowd slowly reached the age where they just didn't want to do it anymore and it finally died. Myself and a group of close friends had talked for years about bringing it back. Everyone is always so enthusiastic until it comes time to commit and then they vanish. This year we finally said fuck it, we're doing it. We found a reliable group of 8 and we're just going a short distance for an overnight golf trip. Of course as word started to get out that it was actually happening, we started to get people asking if they could go. Fuck those guys, maybe next year. Now they actually know that we're serious. ⛳🍻🏌️‍♂️🚐

Got my first ever eagle yesterday. Drove a 300 yarder into the green and then hit a 15 foot putt.
Bogied the next damn hole .
Shot a 40 (just a quick 9 hole round).
So you Bogied the next hole? So what. All that matters is that beautiful Eagle. Bravo.

A million years ago on caddy day at bass rocks in Gloucester I drove the green on this puny 260 yard par 4 and three putted from 8 feet.

Played awful today though! If only I could become consistently above average. Shot a 92 at Stowe.

St Jude Championship going on today. This is the 1st in the FedEx Playoffs.
It's a tournament within a tournament as players are trying to improve their ranking for the finals 2 weeks.

Day one of our golf trip is in the books. I played miserably. I scored two points which is two bogeys. It was a brutal course and conditions that all but one of us struggled in but it was a great day. We ended the day with a couple breweries and beers on the hotel patio before we do it all over again tomorrow. 🤘⛳🍺🏌️

Today starts the 2nd round of the FedEx Playoffs. The BMW starts at 2 today on the golf channel. The field is now down to the top 50 players ranked.
Next week it will be the top 30.
By the way, the LIV had a big televised tournament last week. A pickleball tournament had higher TV ratings.

To play even consistently above average requires more practice than most of us average folks have time for.

I have been wondering whether my current mediocrity/inconsistency might be caused by several closures of local driving ranges
(real estate is profitable in these parts). I used to be able to drive 5 minutes to a little mom and pop place that had
a place to hit off grass and out of sand as well as the regular astro turf. It was never crowded and relatively cheap. The
conditions were spotty, but that was actually helpful because when I got on a real course with nice grass it seemed pretty easy
to make good contact. You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone. You have to have that feel of hitting off real grass.

Anyhow, I drove past that place the other day and it's now covered with McMansions. I hope the nice Lady that ran it made a bundle,
but I cursed her when I continued on to the next-nearest place, which had closed the entire grass area and had nothing but wonky mats
that don't even have rubber tees. I don't like practicing there, but it is what it is.

It's a hard game and practice is essential, not optional. I have to find a better place to get to work.

I can't believe that I forgot to report this but on day one of our golf outing, I absolutely nailed a house. It was only the second hole but it was one of the worst tee shots that I have ever had. Just pulled it straight right (I'm a lefty). It was so far gone that I honestly thought it might clear all of the houses. No luck. After a few seconds we heard the thud. Thankfully it wasn't glass shattering. This led me to a thought. Why don't more of these rich folk invest in tall nets to protect their homes? I can't imagine it's very expensive in the grand scheme of things. Anyways, nobody must have been home because we didn't have any confrontations on the golf course.

Kimballs in Westford now has Trackmans at every single bay. Phenomenal. Prices haven’t gone up yet either.

I played at Atkinson on Tuesday and played poorly; got a 96.
Playing there again early tomorrow morning. We will see if my irons are a bit better.

Congrats.
I have played many a golf course over the years that had homes build close to the fairways. But in all those rounds I have never or ever played with anyone who has hit a house.
Sure a ball or 2 has landed in a back yard. And I've even played with an idiot who tried to play from someone's back yard as the owner came charging out yelling.

I was playing the inland course at New Seabury on Cape Cod and hit a huge slice on a dog right into a patch of woods. I heard that "thwock" sound
that means shingles. So, I walk towards the area and as I get closer I could see between the leaves I a pretty big backyard party underway at what had to be the victim
house. The last thing I expected to see at that time on a weekday.

I couldn't really run and I couldn't really hide to I decided to take the coward's way out by just walking on by with my eyes focused on a phantom ball
that neither they nor I could see and the most innocent expression I could muster on my mug.

I should have just walked up, apologized and asked for a spare beer. Nope. I pretended it wasn't me. :hello: You couldn't even see the house from the tee box.

 , as ever.

Keegan enters today as the leader by 1. Yesterday he had a chance to break open a big lead but started stepping on his own dick. But the others also stepped on their dicks so here we are.

Young Alexa Pano finish tied for 10th a the Womans British Opem.
Why do bring that up?
She's the only professional golfer, male or female, being sponsored by an NFL team. That team is the NE Patiots. She wears the logo on her shirt and on her golf bag.
