The Golf thread

Ok, for those of you not keeping track of this, the Americans finished today's leading 11points to 7 for the Internationals.
Tomorrow will be 12 singles matches, each match counts as a point for the winner. In case of a tie each team gets a half a point. The team that wins 15 points will win the Presidents Cup.
By the time that the Patriots play, we should know the winner.

Just got home from a pro am at our course tired long day but for a great cause …struggling children who lost love ones in the immediate family …. Mom, Dad, Siblings. Didn’t win and didn’t expect to lol. But lots of fun.

Good for you.
I do 3 charity scrambles per year and really enjoy them.
Because of the # of teams on the course it usually takes 5 hours. Just waiting behind other groups makes the round longer and more tiring.
I have one coming up next Monday to benefit Veterans Services.

Here's a story that should make us amateur golfers feel better about our games.
Last week a PGA professional, Joe Bramlett, in a tournament in Las Vegas 5 PUTTED on one whole.
I don't think that I've ever more than 3 putted on any hole. That could happen several time per round. But how the hell do you 5 putt as a professional?

I played down in Oklahoma last Saturday with a couple friends before we went to my nephews football game. It had to have been the most bizarro world round that any of us had been a part of. It started out great. I crushed my drive on #1 and was about 20 yards from the green. I think it was probably the closest I had ever come to driving the green on a par 4. Then I chipped on and we all quickly found out that we probably should have spent some time on the practice green. These greens were the fastest that any of us had ever seen and one of us was a collegiate golfer (not me).

We finished our second hole and as we pull up to the #3 tee box, a group of three guys were sitting there and they told us to go ahead. We should have been a little suspicious when one of the guys starts talking to my friend about how Kyler Murray had been playing like crap for the Sooners this season. :confused1: We just hit our drives and thanked them for letting us play through and went about our business.

Fast forward to hole 15. We all hit our drives. I was off to the left of the fairway. My two friends both went right. We saw the balls land and knew exactly where to go. We got up to the first tree where we saw one of the balls land and it was nowhere to be found but there was another ball lying there. There was another group playing on the opposite fairway that started asking questions about where we hit that immediately made us assume that they either picked up our balls or mistakenly hit them. While we were trying to figure that out we hear a ball go sailing past us. We look back and it was the group that had let us play through. They never said a word to us. Just hit and drove on through. We were all standing by our balls still trying to process wtf just happened and wait for that group to clear the green when another ball lands in between us. A single player comes driving through with his wife and doesn't make eye contact with anyone. Finally as he was lining up his next shot but buddy yelled at him and told him that we were trying to hit. He said that he didn't know that we were playing on that hole too and hit his ball then sped away. We kept watching and he didn't even finish the hole. He just drove on past while the other group was still putting and cut past them too. Needless to say, the last three holes didn't go well for any of us and we were just glad to get the hell out of there.

I shot a 41 today as the Jeckell and Hyde tour continues. I would have loved to play 18 but I'm limited to 9 because of a tear in my aorta.
What beautiful weather we have been blessed with here over the past 10 days.

Played 45 holes this past week in Vermont. 18 @ Mt. Anthony in Bennington shot a 92. 18 @ Brattleboro CC shot a 97. 9 @ Haystack in Wilmington shot a 49.
Happy with those scores. The weather was beautiful and all the courses were in great shape.

Tonight at 6 on TNT Rory and Scottie will be playing against Bryson and Brooks.
Don't know what the format will be. I assume it will be best ball.
I was somewhat interested in watching this but 5:00 central time on a Tuesday just doesn't work for me. I won't be home from the gym until close to 7:00 and then I got plenty of other stuff to do. As for the format...

Format

The Showdown will feature three different playing formats across 18 holes of competition. The first third of the match, holes Nos. 1-6, will consist of the four-ball format where each competitor will play his own golf ball with the lowest score from each team being counted. The next third, holes Nos. 7-12, will see competitors team up in foursomes which is commonly known as alternate shot.

Following the two team-style formats, players will compete in a singles match across holes Nos. 13-18. One player from each team will be matched up against one from the other as the match comes to an end. All players have experience in each playing format as the three played in The Showdown are the same three played in the Ryder Cup.

In the mid of all the college and pro games this weekend, the PNC Pro-Am is on NBC. This is the tourney that players team up with a family member. It is competitive.
Tiger and Charlie Woods will be playing. Charlie is not the cute little kid that most of us remember from previous years. He is now in high school and is playing on his high school team.
I'll probably catch some of it during the Jets game on Sunday.

Charlie Woods, age 15,with an ace on the 6th hole. Followed by Paddy Harrington age 21 with an ace on the same hole.
Tiger and Charlie in the lead after 10.
