The Golf thread

They are having new indoor team golf match on ESPN, with 3 PGA players per team. It's using a simulator but also a rotating putting green. This match is at the SoFi in LA.
It's called TGL and sponsored by Tiger and Rory.

Tonight is a TGL match on ESPN at 7pm.
I started watching last week when it started late and it looked interesting. There will be a match every Tuesday night at through March.

Ok this is not like watching a real golf tournament but it does have dome entertainment value. It's different fir sure.
I read that the TV ratings for this are twice the ratings that any LIV tournament has received. And the TGL didn't have to pay to get their matches televised.

Maybe because it’s not like playing in a real tournament ;):biggrin:

For the next 4 days the Phoenix Open is being played.
Huge and rowdy crowds are the norm. With the 16th stadium hole being the craziest.
Scottie just holed a 125 yard shot from a sand bunker for an eagle 2.

The average crowd at the Phoenix Open is 125,000 per day, with 95,000 over the legal limit.
The stadium at the 16th hole holds 20,000, with 19,995 2X over the legal limit.

This week is the $20,00000,000 Genesis Open. All the big names will be p.aying in this one. Tiger was scheduled to play but withdrew due to the death of his mother.
This is usually played in LA but was moved to Torry Pines in San Diego because of the fires in LA.

Both Rory and Scottie need to get their game going today. They both had a chance to be the leader and they both shot over par. Neither could make putts yesterday.

Åberg made things a little more difficult than they needed to be on those last two holes but it was good to see the Swede get another win under his belt. He's a pretty easy guy to root for.

Hovland wins the Valspar while Justin Thomas has two bogeys on last three holes to blow a three shot lead late in the round

What the hell happened to JT?
In other golf news: 2 courses opened here this weekend if you own a snorkel. Tomorrow calls for 3-5 inches of snow.

Wake up!! It's Masters week.
Today is the Par 3 event. This is a fun event to watch. Family members are caddies and get to play.
There is nothing like Augusta National.
For anyone interested in watching before 2 PM on ESPN:

The Masters Par 3 Contest from Augusta National will begin at noon ET with live coverage via streaming on Masters.com, the Masters app, ESPN+, Disney+, and Fubo, which is offering a free trial. TV coverage begins at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN.
