The Golf thread

Today is the start of the Players Chanpionship. Prize money is $25,000.
The 17th hole is an island green par 3, which has wrecked many players chances to win.

I played the Stadium and the Valley 15 years ago when on a "work" trip to Amelia Island.

Yes, I hit the island on my first tee shot. Yes, I landed in the bunker. Yes, I skulled it out of the bunker and into the water on the other side...

I have picture of the scorecards. That is all I have to say about that.

I would bring 100 balls. I think I would choose the right club and I have a good swing. But water F's with my head and that one would double F with my head.

I have an amazing aqua-magnetic ability to put it in the water even if it's a small body of water i had no biz landing in. I keep a "water ball" on me at all times

It does. Even in a friendly match the pressure was huge. 3 of us hit the island. 2 stopped on the island (me and my boss) with another hitting and going off the back. My boss 4 putted. He was new to me but I laughed anyway as did he when I skulled my 2nd over the green and almost over the water to the left.

<sigh> memories...

After day one it is like 30 golfers within 3 strokes of leaders
Expect it to spread out after tomorrow’s round
P44’s binky Viktor Hovland -3
Rory +2

Definition of an Embedded Ball

A golf ball is considered "embedded" when it is in its own pitch mark made from a previous stroke, with part of the ball below the ground level. Grass or loose impediments can be present between the ball and the soil.

The question for me is: is it below ground level?

I would rule it as an unplayable lie. Should my partner object, then I would be forced to attempt to play it. But my back swing could accidently somehow hit my partner in the nuts.

Yesterday the 1000th ball since 2003 landed in the water on the 18th hole during tournament play. The did not mention how many water balls there have been on the 17th.

Imagine how many of us hacks have put balls in the water on 17 since 2023! I managed to do AFTER safely making the island. But I repeat myself...
