A recent trouble got me to thinking of how to resolve it, so I thought to myself "Dwight, who can help with this issue?" and came to the conclusion that this forum, with it's vast group spanning all ages and backgrounds, would pose an excellent resource to bounce troubles/issues/problems off of and hopefully get pointed in the right direction.

So let me start something here and see if it picks up any steam.

Ok, so who'd a thought this internet thingie would've stuck around. Go figure. So I'm late to the party with all of it, but one thing caught me last night. I finally clicked on the YouTube thread (at home) and was instantly grabbed.

So I also got a new iPod recently, loaded just about every song I could think I'm interested in, and still had about 4G of space. So I figured maybe I could fill some of the remaining space with videos of some of my all time fav's from YouTube. Is this possible? I don't have a YouTube account, which I presume is step 1, but after that can you download vids to your iTunes account and load to iPod? In playing the videos I didn't see any "download to hard drive" option.

Anybody?

I know that the new iPhones and the iTouch (which IIRC is an iPhone without the "phone" part) can go right to YouTube to *display* videos. But I don't think you can download them.

I'm sure there's a way to rip MPEGs into an iPod but, again, with YouTube you can't actually download them.

Now, I have HEARD that at some pr0n sites (not that I've ever been to one) you can download iPod-ready pr0n clips. However, I would not advise that, because you're opening up your computer to viruses and spyware and the iPod can even transfer them to your computer that way.

I would stick to things like podcasts you get via Apple online using iTunes.

Well there we go. Help desk solution #1. Now Dwight will rush home to search for iPod ready pr0n cl.....I mean, ...podcasts via iTunes, yeah, that's the ticket!

NEXT!

Oh. I get it. This is, like, the general help forum. So you want us all to put our questions here for others to assist. Gotcha.

Umm... it burns when I pee. Should I worry about that? ROFL

(Just kidding.)

Not a help question, but I'll mention that I went to Circuit City yesterday and picked up an SD card for my camera, in preparation for Hawaii. I bought a 4GB card which can also be used directly in a USB port (so you can use it as a mini hard drive and take pictures directly off the card into a computer, even if said computer doesn't have a card reader). The card was on sale for $39.99, which blows my mind 'cause not that long ago you'd pay $100 for a 1GB regular card.

I still have this thing on my ass that nobody has been able to help with.

Want to talk blowin' your mind. I just recently got a new cellie and this model had bluettoth stereo so the guy at the counter tells me of the deal on the Motorolla headset. A guy at work has been wearing the same thing, said he paid about $130 for it. Anywho , the Circuit City guy shows me the kit. Has charger, headphones, and A 4G MEMORY CARD FOR THE PHONE for....

wait....

wait....

$49.99!

I walked around the counter to the memory card display and the SAME card was $59.99!!!!!

I bought 2 wireless sets. Wifie will use the card in her phone and I'll flip the second set of phones to almost pay for the whole shebang!

OK, I don't have an iPod, but if iPods have an FLV player, you could play youtube videos. If not, then you have to purchase software (on your PC) to convert FLV files to something that the iPod could play.

The free version Real Player (on PCs) can download the FLV files from youtube (and of course play them). As far as I know, you have to pay money (i.e. buy software) to convert them, though.

Hope this helps

I have this problem that I was confronted with head on yesterday. I guess I'm just stupid and don't make the right choices. Like I choose to actually BUY gas for my car so I can get to work and buy groceries, but I don't have to actually USE gas and I can move and not work where my work is.

Can someone help me?

So once you have a YouTube account you can download and save to say a My Videos folder on your PC. Then from there try and drag and drop into iTunes?

Is that like when Sam Kinison did his shtick on world hunger and suggested they should "move to where the food is"

You need software like Real Player (but it's free) to download the FLV files from YouTube. What I don't know is if iPods know how to play FLV files (since I don't have one). If they can't, then the FLV file (on the PC) would need to be converted into a format that an iPod can play.

Further exploration to commence this evening...

perhaps this can help.

One note you'll be asked in these instructions to remove jp.swf but the url comes up with swf/l.swf. In that case remove the swf/l and insert jp in their place and hit enter. Now replace the jp.swf with get_video and that should bring up the download box.

Seems like an awful lot of work to get a YouTube clip into an iPod. I don't think there's anything on YouTube I want that badly, LOL.

Ha! I remembered we had a ‘help desk’ thread but it had been eons… (or 2008 apparently)
