Best new show on TV, in my opinion.

I've been a fan of FX for awhile (The Shield, nuff said) - they are clearly right there with HBO, Showtime, and AMC as the top series-producing networks, and this one is really cool. I just watch the third episode from my DVR and it was the best yet. Things are really starting to come together, while new mysteries are opening up. I think this may be the next "Lost" - my wife and I are already debating about it - we each have a theory as to what is going on.

Remarkably creepy. The intro alone is enough to give one the shivers - disjointed music and flashes of truly disturbing images. The best opening sequence since "True Blood", imo.

The acting is top-notch, especially Dylan McDermott as a man who is becoming totally unglued. And the long, dark history of the house has provided some excellent cameos - really twisted characters who at some point had a connection with the violent house.

And the scares are legit. Some edgy graphic violence, but also some unseen innuendo that makes you feel on edge as you watch. Suspenseful stuff.

The show also manages to be sexy as well - the mystery of the house-maid (who the main charcater Ben sees as a voluptuous young woman, but everyone else sees as a creepy old lady) is simultaneously erotic and creepy.

There is so much going on between the current characters (who have plenty of their own secrets), the mysteries the house presents, and the slowly-revealed past of the house that I have found that this is the show that I really look forward to catching each week.

My prediction is that American Horror Story will be the next big show that everyone talks about.

Great first 3 episodes so far, the maid when being seen as young is freaking HOT, when she's seen older I can't stop thinking about how Rainn Wilson AKA Arthur Martin AKA Dwight Schrute was courting her in HBO's 6 Feet Under

Thats my Sat nt.

Put the kids to bed and bang out all 3 ep's on the DVR.

Ya, I know I'm boring as all get out....

Early mornin' hockey for my daughter though.

Curious as to Den's theories as I might have missed the hype and promo but I see it for what it is - a haunted house with new tenants

Definitely agree that the acting is top notch. The teenage kid/daughter's love interest/possibly dead dude is phenomenal. Like, i'm pretty sure that kid is just messed up in real life.

Me & the Mrs. love the show. One thing about the maid, last night when the detective was there, he saw the maid and said "how do you get anything done with that thing around here."
I wonder how he saw her. Young maid = hot enough to make that comment. Old maid = creepy enough to make that comment.

This is exactly one of the points my wife and I also disagreed on - I took that to mean he saw her as the hotty, while my wife was convinced he saw her as the creepy old lady.

I support my argument also by the speech the maid gives where she says something to the effect of 'men see what they want to see' wheras women see 'into a person's soul'.

I did see the previews, which I don't like when I'm not currently up to speed in particular.

Told my wife with a wink "We have some dust-bunnies in the hall".

She told me "Go clean 'em up then!"

Fail.

Besides that, he was hoping to bang into her on his way out.

There is no question that it was the young maid.

She made a comment earlier to the effect of "Men see what they want to see while women see beyond to the truth of the matter."

Doesn't show up on my Tivo search or when I scroll through FX guide?!?

There are several unanswered questions which have led my wife and I to come up with some different thoughts.

Is the wife's pregnancy normal or supernatural?

Is the teenage boy alive or dead?

Why does the neighbor's mentally handicapped daughter seem to know things?

Why does Ben see the maid the way he does? Why can't the maid's ghost leave the house - (possibly answered by the fact that her body is still on premises?) - what about the doctor's wife - is her body trapped on premises too? And if the maid was killed when she was young, why does she appear old now?

Is the neighbor trapped too? She seems awfully connected to the house. Is she dead too?

Why is the burned guy helping Ben with his problems?

etc. etc.

I have some basic ideas, definately not well-formulated yet....need some more info first. Hopefully the next few episodes will give us some more to work with....

I thought the first two episodes were awesome. Really well written & executed - and legitimately scary, something you don't see on TV that often. It's great to see horror brought to the small screen in some form other than BS reality ghost hunting crap.

That said, I thought the third episode was so weak that I fear for the show's longevity, which I did from the getgo to be honest given that in it's nature it's taking a plot for a movie and trying to stretch it into a TV show. There was a lot of on-the-nose dialogue, deus-ex-machina type convoluted plot points (hey, let's just have the random burnt face guy kill the mistress).

Not to mention, the foundation for the show is that they need to be stuck in this house - unfortunately, it's not believable yet. They threw way to many not-so-believable convoluted reasons why they aren't moving at us - and the more you throw at us, the less likely the audience is to buy in. The financial ones don't resonate...allegedly they're too poor to move or even rent some tiny apartment...yet they are keeping their maid.

Okay.

Anyway, I am hoping that episode was just an aberration and it gets back on track b/c the actors are top-notch, the production is clearly top-notch, and the visuals are stunning.

Is the wife's pregnancy normal or supernatural? normal

Is the teenage boy alive or dead? Dead, I think he is Jessica Lange AKA Constance's son

Why does the neighbor's mentally handicapped daughter seem to know things? I think they are relatives of her's

And if the maid was killed when she was young, why does she appear old now? Good questions

Is the neighbor trapped too? She seems awfully connected to the house. Is she dead too? My thought is YES

Why is the burned guy helping Ben with his problems? Because he has lived the Horror

etc. etc.
