Here's where we are according to PFF. I'm starting this thread to keep up where we go from here.

The Patriots rank 30th in the NFL in pass blocking and 29th in run blocking.

Of the 100 OTs graded in run blocking, the Patriots have No. 52 (Onwenu), 57 (Vederian Lowe), 82 (Caedan Wallace) and 97 (Demontrey Jacobs).

Of the 86 guards, they have Nos. 17 (Zach Thomas - 24 snaps all year), 29 (Michael Jordan) 75 (Sidy Sow) and 82 (Layden Robinson).

Of the 39 Cs, they have Nos. 26 (David Andrews) and 30 (Nick Leverett).

Every player at every position needs to be upgraded. If I'm GM, I start with the tackles, move to C then to Gs.
I give myself 1 off season to complete the task.
The only players I plan on keeping are Andrews at C & Onwenu at G. But I'm looking at Andrews as a backup to my new C.

I wondering when Andrews is going to hang it up, its been rumored he has been thinking about it, and with the injuries over the last couple of years his body is taking a beating.

Andrews is injured.

New England will lose starting center and team captain David Andrews for the remainder of the season after he injured his shoulder against the 49ers in Week 4. Andrews will undergo surgery to fix his shoulder, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, after briefly debating if he could play through the injury for the rest of the year.

I'm glad they're sitting him down. He's earned it, and he's not going to add wins. I'd love to have him back to mentor a young C we pick up before next year.

Wow, I didn't know that the OL was bad.
I thought that the other teams defenses were really, really good. I thought that our RB,QB, WR, and TE were bad.
This is shocking news that the Patriots OL is awful, and with injuries, will probably be terrible.

in the spirit of keeping up where the Pats O-Line goes from here, I have begun a Greatest Hits chart to document the season

D. Carr was sacked 76 times in 2002. Pats O-Line is on average for 73
D Marino was sacked 6 times in 1988
Most sacks in a single game is shared by Warren Moon and Donovan McNabb both with 12

Mayo says Andrews may be a coach for the Pats in the near future and that Gibson may start at RB citing Stevenson's fumbling problem.

Like so many other threads this week, the title of this thread should be: Patriot's Offense Line RIP

I was at Yellowstone on Sunday and just got back, so haven't watched the game yet.

I saw a few lowlights and was very disappointed that it didn't appear Demontrae Jacobs can play worth a damn based on
just how bad he got beat by Bosa. I thought he was a maybe based on a few good reps, but, nope, the odds of getting serviceable
play at LT from somebody already on the roster have gone from really slim to impossible.

Given that I like to see somebody play before I say anything about them, I'll take a wild guess that the guy we just picked up who hasn't played
in 3 years isn't a fantastic candidate, either. Great way to read the room, Eliot. You helped create a dumpster fire and are doubling down with people
have zero shot of helping.

I guess this is our fate for '24 when if we had solid-to-good play from that ONE position then we would be much better off, injuries non-withstanding.

O-Line update after the Game yesterday

side note: after a much needed O-line performance improvement and the boost of a Kendrick Bourne return to the lineup :rolleyes1: we have this quote from HC Mayo

"Look, there are definitely things that I have to do better as a head coach," Mayo said. "The staff, they're still – they're getting on the same page."
:banghead:

I was trying to think of a Patriots team that had an OL as bad a this one.
I thought of the 1992 team that was 2-14. However that team had Bruce Armstrong and Pat Harlow. Harlow was not the best but he wasn't that bad and went on to start for the Raiders.
I really can't think of a Patriots OL as bad as this one.

Apparently "getting on the same page" is a more favorable statement than what he wanted to say originally.

One thing I had to do in my working days was known as "troubleshooting".

Often, that was simply fucking around until I could move the problem and, therefore, isolate and fix it. What we saw yesterday was yet
another attempt to cobble together a different combination that could hold up and the key guy was 2nd time starter Demontrae
Jacobs moving from LT to RT upon the return of the much maligned Verderian Lowe from injury. In addition, we started Michael
Jordan at LG and moved Mike Onwenu back to RG.

Now I know that a waiver wire pickup who has barely had enough time to learn the plays and has no real NFL experience isn't a guy
who you want to carry a banner for, but from what my lyin' eyes are telling me he has actually been a major upgrade and has earned
a starting job.

Of course ,there were a few issues yesterday in his play. He got whistled for a hold and appeared to allow a free rusher for a sack, but
I believe that could have been a bad protection call since the Phins had overloaded the right side and Jacobs can't be expected to handle
two guys.

Nick Leverette isn't a polished Center and as Mark Sanchez (who wasn't too bad) noted-- he can't pass block. And 8 pressures credited to
him back up that assertion. This is a major problem and I expect the next grand experiment to stop the bleeding. to be trying the PS guy recently
elevated through desperation, Bryan Hudson. I know nothing about him, but I know Leverette is not the answer and in the kingdom of the blind
the one-eyed man can be king even if he isn't perfect. They'll start Hudson next week if they have any sense at all, because that was awful
yesterday.

If David Andrews was in there yesterday then we would have been looking at the best performance, overall, the line has had so far in '24 as
the run blocking was impressive and without Leverette breaking down instantly we might have been feeling hopeful this morning.

The point is that we had pretty decent play at the Tackle spots and moved the problem. We seem to be zeroing in on a group that can allow Maye to start playing
QB in two weeks instead of just swapping bodies at random with no discernable change in results. That's not nothing.

Maye starts in London and maybe, just maybe, the tide starts to turn. He won't require an impenetrable wall to function, but getting rid
of the instant turnstyles should be enough to give him a chance.
