I'm putting it in the politics section because I'm guessing a good many quotes will be philosophical/political/religious in nature so have at it. But also feel free to post any quote you find interesting, inspiring or whatnot.
Seems appropriate
Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.
--Douglas Adams
Occasionally, when I get mad at a woman, I'll do some great, awful painting about her."If the natural tendencies of mankind are so bad that it is not safe to permit people to be free, how is it that the tendencies of these organizers are always good? Do not the legislators and their appointed agents also belong to the human race? Or do they believe that they themselves are made of a finer clay than the rest of mankind?"
- Frederic Bastiat (1801-1850)
“The only position that leaves me with no cognitive dissonance is atheism. It is not a creed. Death is certain, replacing both the siren-song of Paradise and the dread of Hell. Life on this earth, with all its mystery and beauty and pain, is then to be lived far more intensely: we stumble and get up, we are sad, confident, insecure, feel loneliness and joy and love. There is nothing more; but I want nothing more.”
― Christopher Hitchens
Lady Nancy Astor: Winston, if you were my husband, I'd poison your tea.
Churchill: Nancy, if I were your husband, I'd drink it.
You're welcome. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.I have some philosophical issues with the "New Atheists" like Hitchens but they are morality based. This a brilliant quote of him. It is that fact that we are are mortal and will eventually die that gives rise to to necessity for moral philosophy and the pursuit of values.
Live your life to fullest now, here on earth and let man or god tear you asunder with religious fervor and hatred for humanity offering only salvation in a world that there is no basis for.
Thank you for this, Tip.![]()
