I have a lot of favorites in this category, and I'm hoping people will post some great songs that I don't know about.

Because there's so many outstanding rock instrumentals, it was easy to decide to start this thread, but it was much harder to pick out the song I wanted to use to kick things off.

I settled on this one, because I think it's a little less well-known than some of the other songs that I (and I hope others) will be posting later.

Song: Sunny Side Of Heaven
Artist: Fleetwood Mac

I have 2 faves.......

(No. 1) a good "Start a Road Trip" tune to get the blood flowing pulling out the driveway

also thought should have been played at Gillette when Brady led the Pats onto the field

Song: Chace The Ace
Artist: AC/DC

(No. 2) a mellow-out tune to tone down any hypertension after visiting the Planet's Politics and Religion Forum

Song: The Long Road
Artist: Mark Knopfler

Thanks for the contribution, RG. I have never been an AC/DC fan, but I enjoyed that one.

And the Knopfler song is exactly what I was hoping for in this thread - I know some of his work, but not as much as I think I should. I'll be listening to that one again (and again, and again).

A little jazz a little rock a little pop all in the same tune.
Jeff Beck is in the discussion.

Jeff Beck makes Superstition pop like never before.

Also, look up pretty much anything Steve Vai.

This song is most definitely my favorite instrumental. It's solo acoustic guitar, but I think it qualifies as rock.

It's done in an alternate tuning known as "Nashville" tuning and it lends a distinctive harmonic/choral effect to the piece. I thought about posting
a live version just to demonstrate that it is not overdubbed in any way, but decided the studio version has superior production values. At times you'd
swear there are multiple instruments (I hear "piano") in the track, but it's all just Pat Metheny.

I think it is an amazing composition and I hope somebody who has never heard it enjoys it and feels something
inspirational and moving in it as I do. Enjoy.

I'd recommend headphones to get the full tonal effect.

This one is just superb - and then some. :)

"Black Napkins is a song I've had for year or more but it was finally named last Thanksgiving when we were having this horrible Thanksgiving dinner in Milwaukee. Sliced turkey roll with the fucking preservatives just gleaming off it, and this beat-up cranberry material. The final stroke to this ridiculous dinner was the black napkins, sitting next to the dishes. That really said the most about the dinner" - FZ
