The STEM thread

Wow! I wonder what other extinct species we can bring back?

I would like to lobby for the "Raquel Welch," please.

I think you should offer your services as an advisor to the biosciences community. You have a fine discernment that would be an asset to them.

As undergrad math major I took a course in Abstract Algebra where we spent the whole semester proving that there is no general solution to equations of the fifth degree or higher.

Along the way, we learned about Abel and Galois and rings and fields and groups.

I don't think it was a waste, even though this new technique represents "...a dramatic revision of a basic chapter in algebra."

Crossing the Bar

BY ALFRED, LORD TENNYSON

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.

Dad loved Tennyson he would be pleased.

Thank you. Hope you and yours are doing well.
