Top 10 QB'S

Don't think you understood what was being said.

I was talking about why schools like a BYU never get respect like SEC/Big10 teams do

Ok, back to QB's.

Otto Graham won 7 titles, and I have seen him ranked in the top 5 all time.

If going with....dominance of era.....only Brady was more dominate.

Yep, hmmmmm?

The reason a BYU, a MACschool never get ranked very high is because of lack of competition. But not ok to go with that when comparing back in the day to today.
So you brought up BYU to discuss Graham. But Graham played the best opponents in the world, BYU doesn't.
And Otto Graham threw the hell out of the ball, so....???

...and I responded by saying why it's specifically hard to compare quarterbacks from the T, Wing T, and Single Wing era. Yes, Graham started to shift into the modern era throwing. Wasn't saying he didn't. Was saying that the position was fundamentally different.

You missed the point.

BYU played a weaker schedule, Otto played vs weaker opposition than what came later.

I do get this ...era...thing and we can go with that, that puts Don Hutson above Jerry Rice, Otto right there with Brady.

Do we really want to do that?

No player was as dominant at their position as Don Hutson was, but he never faced speedy cornerbacks he himself a 9.8 sprinter.

BYU doesn't play the strongest available competition. Otto did.

There is something to the idea of the necessity of a floor to your level of competition, if that's what you're getting at. Some baseline level of parity within the league? If you want to find a particular point in time and say, "that's when every team was at least competitive, a reasonable challenge, let's start from there," I could get behind that.

But I'm not sure what it is that you're arguing, except Doods Be Bigger And Faster Now.

Otto Graham and Tom Brady really barely play the same position. I'm absolutely open to comparing play across eras. You seem to be as well, it's just that it depends on the position, or something?

There's a great argument to be made that Don Hutson is among, even above, the top WR/TE of all time. I wouldn't take that position, but it's defensible.

So you don't think being a dominant athlete compared to those you're competing against should be considered as a factor in greatness? I'm struggling to see where you're going with this. Jim Brown was wildly more athletic than everyone around him, should we eliminate him?

Your argument is both inconsistent and doesn't make sense internally.
