  • The rule regarding low hits on passers is clarified:
    • A defender cannot initiate a roll or lunge and forcibly hit the passer in the knee area or below, even if he is being contacted by another player.
    • It is not a foul if the defender swipes, wraps, or grabs a passer in the knee area or below in an attempt to tackle him.

The announcers, let's call them the "B team" didn't mention it, unsurprisingly, and I don't know the rule for sure, but I had thought that there was protection for QBs from low hits as long
as they are in the pocket only. The low hit rule being instituted to protect QBs from pass rushers coming in low when their attention was downfield and they couldn't protect
themselves. Clearly, Boyband was running with the ball well outside the pocket and it may be that he is then considered a running back who is not protected in the same way
QBs are and the hit, therefore, was perfectly legal.

I tried to look it up, but couldn't find anything specific. If anybody knows the deal then please weigh in.

I was curious so I looked it up. You are right. When he's out of the pocket, the low hit rule doesn't apply. The hit by Guy was legal then. I was wondering why there wasn't a flag on that play, but this explains it.

When the passer goes outside the pocket area and either continues moving with the ball (without attempting to advance the ball as a runner) or throws while on the run, he loses the protection of the one-step rule provided for in (a) above, and the protection against a low hit provided for in (e) above, but he remains covered by all the other special protections afforded to a passer in the pocket (b, c, d, and f), as well as the regular unnecessary roughness rules applicable to all player positions. If the passer stops behind the line and clearly establishes a passing posture, he will then be covered by all of the special protections for passers.

So, some good stuff today, but honestly I thought this was Mac's worst game to date. Accuracy and timing were glitching in and out, and I can't believe he wasn't picked off at the end of the 1st quarter on a bad decision.

There will be days like this, but it's interesting that he looked off on his first 300 yard passing game in a blowout win where almost every drive yielded points.

Crap insulting posts moved out of thread. If I have to move any more, additional action will be taken.

Yep. He was a little off in the first half from what I could see on first watch, but if he completes 2 of every 3 on a day when he wasn't pinpoint then we don't have a lot to gripe about.

I thought the supporting cast was sharper and that meant almost everybody. I know it was Hoyer, but when Jakob J. goes for 29 on a reception and Harry fights for a nice catch then
you know that things are going you're way. It was a great day for the shock troops, too.

Barmore is getting more snaps, more attention from blocking schemes and still making more plays. That 3rd and 1 when he closed on the RB was Seymour material. What I like best
is that he was supposedly a bit of a problem child at Bama, but he's hustling his ass off out there. He could really end up as one of the top DLs in the league once he figures it all out.

Also,

Best game for the OL this year by a wide margin although far from perfect. They shredded that front 7 in the 1st quarter to help us get off to a long overdue good start. The holes were huge.

One fun fact is that the camera showed Bullethead Bob on about 17 separate occasions in the 2nd half and not once did he say a word into his headset. I think he was all out of ideas. He looked so sad and lost that for a second I almost felt sorry for him.

Most underrated pick in the draft as far as I'm concerned. He will be every bit the player Vince was.
That may be a little on the optimistic side, but dude eats double teams for breakfast.

Maybe, but he really has all the physical tools, his only knock ws inconsistency in college. If motivated, I think at the least, he'll be the best DT we've had since Big Vince.

Ok, just checking. I will be nice.

But, can people see why Wilson could be a bust? Everything I've said about him showed up again today. Needs to run right to try to make plays on broken plays, doesn't go through progressions and he plays small. He's not 6'3 either. He looks like a senior in high school or a freshman in college. I am not surprised he's already hurt. He's just not very good.

We have the best QB in the draft, and so far this season, it hasn't been close.
Wilson will have excuses made for him right up until the Jets don't pick up his option after year 4.

I just spent a few minutes reading post on Jets Nation.
As a compassionate person I should feel sorry for Jets fans but I don't.

Thank you for doing the lord's work, so we don't have to.
I went over after reading your post ParaPat and they were bitching about Wilson getting injured and how they should have gone after Mac. This gem was posted...
