We're on to Cincinnati

Sitting out isn't necessarily a bad negotiating move for Chase. If the Bengals lose, or win a close game, he can claim to have demonstrated his importance to the team. If they win by a pretty big number, the reverse doesn't really hold, because "it's just the Patriots."

I’m ok with Jacoby starting. I do think he’s earned it just cause he’s a pro and he came to NE knowing he’d be replaced at some point. So give him a chance so show what he can do. Give the coaches a few games to see the Oline, and hopefully adjust as best as possible.
But damn it would be way more fun watching Maye out there.

The spread for the Pats/Bungles is 9.5. The largest spread of any week 1 game by a field goal.

The Bengals play the Chiefs in week 2. Maybe Chase sits our game and then comes back for Chiefs?

Their D isn't the greatest in the world. I think this game is pretty tight overall especially since it's week one. A lot of weird things happen in week ones.
I agree. I think the spread is way too high for week 1 even though we are on the road. Bengals are a notorious slow starting team as well. I still like our D a lot so I don't see this as being a blow out by any means especially if Brisket can stay clean in the pocket somehow.

Thought I'd start talking about the upcoming game. I'm really looking forward to this season and hope I get pleasantly surprised by this team. Right out of the gate we get the Bengals, no easy task for any team, never mind a team with so many new parts that is rebuilding.

So many questions:
  • Is Mayo up to the task of game management? So many coaches fail at things like time management, situation strategy (going for it on 4th down), etc.
  • How will the defense scheme and perform without Bill calling the shots? Will they try to take away one thing, like Ja'Maar Chase? Will they adapt throughout the game?
  • What will the new offense look like? I expect Jacoby will get the start, but will they give Maye a couple of series? Will the play calling be creative or predictable like last year? How will the WRs look?
  • And of course, how will the Oline perform? They get a bullet point of their own as this is by far the teams achilles heel heading into the season, much like last year.
New England is a 9.5 underdog. I think this game has the potential to be closer than that. Our defense should keep us in it. Of course, if we don't win the turnover battle, all hope is lost.

Hopefully we get the game here in Indiana since we are close to Cincy. 11 days to go!
Your thread title, has a Ring to it.

so now do we do an anti-karma thread? 😄

It's a little confusing right now, but I'll try.

The Pats keep trying to give the game away, but Cincy just can't handle it and keeps making key mistakes. It comes down to the end
and the Pats, shooting for a moral victory, end up with a pyrrhic loss when Jacoby gets knocked out of the game and, ready or not,
Drake Maye comes in and drives us down to the red zone but throws a bad pick and we lose 23-19.

I don't know if it's karma or not, but I don't think this is going to be blowout loss for us, but one that keeps hope alive long enough
that it can be extinguished before Halloween.
