What Concerts Have You Been To?

First concert I went to was U2 in Croke Park, Dublin in 1985. I was 13 I think and my mother let me go. It was their first every big stadium gig and there was a great supporting line up, REM, The Alarm and The Squeeze. Fantastic concert.

Been to many U2 concerts since and others like INXS, Nile Rodgers, Michae; Jackson, Prince, REM headlining in Dublin, ACDC and many more I'm leaving out. I saw the Drifters playing at a beach club in Newport, RI one year. They were fantastic. I saw the Stone Roses and I went to Oasis at Slane Castle in 2009, brilliant. The Verve, excellent live performers. Van Morrison, a great concert back in 1989.

I saw De la Soul here as well, they were just brilliant. I still listen to their stuff every now and then. There's a lot I'm leaving out.

Not a huge crowd person and haven't been to too many concerts. I have enjoyed the ones I've been to. Mostly more alternative/smaller venues. The 2 most "epic " ones were probably the Cure in the old Cleveland Coliseum shortly before it was decommissioned (great show) and one of Nirvana's last shows ever at JAR arena in Akron in Oct 1993. That is the first last and only concert I ever went to that I waited outside in line overnight to get tickets for.
My musical taste is eclectic so other good ones I saw are: Anita Baker (when I was in Boston in school, can't remember the venue), Luther Vandross (again one of his last shows I think, maybe I am a bad luck charm???), Cheap Trick (great show, my first concert), Tom Petty, and a lot of smaller alternative bands like Jawbox in small local venues. I saw what I think is my favorite band ever OLD Afghan Whigs, 2 or 3 times. Love them live.
Oh and some unknown guy who opened for one of the Marsalis brothers. I remember thinking that his show was cool but an unusual choice for an opening act for them (can't remember if it was Branford or Wynton I was seeing). It was Bobby McFerrin.

A couple I wish I had seen are OLD Police and Dayglo Abortions
I was lucky to see the afghan whigs a couple times, once with back stage passes.
That night early in the show some asshat kept running into my brother and the guys chick got in brothers face so my brother slapped the boyfriend and Duli stops the show and rips into the couple as he saw the whole thing and closes the rant with “I like to fight”....

Show goes on and now I am back stage at the paradise and duli somehow falls into me as I sit with a girl on my lap. I get up and am about to drop who ever it is when the Guitarist says “Greg you like to fight” and duli starts apologizing and offering drinks. Funny night but great band and I’m happy I didn’t beat his ass. That would have sucked.

My ex-gf loved The Cure when we dated in the mid 90's and I hated them until we saw them in 96 in Toronto and I was blown away. They were great live put on a really killer show and I became a fan that night.

And they still bring. Here they are at Glastonberry in 2019

Actually, here's a big one I was at. A small venue in Cork called Sir Henry's more like a very big pub. And I actually saw Nirvana play in 1991. Pics below of them playing that gig.

Lol you're right! I played in bands on the Jersey Shore from 1977-1982 and John Bon was singing for a band called Atlantic City Expressway. We crossed paths many times. He lived 2 doors down from our lead vocalist in Sayreville NJ

I also saw Dio when he was the lead vocalist for Rainbow with Ritchie Blackmore. They were fantastic!

Right in his wheel house, ever hook up with Southside?

Cheers

Sonic Youth were also playing in that gig.

This could have been cooler. Metallica in 1986 touring Ireland. But I wasn't at one of the gigs....such a shame. Metallica are huge here, would have been great to have been there. I think they played the SFX venue in Dublin. Pic of them below in some town somewhere in the country.

Kirk really does look like a chick in that picture.

Sad as well, I think that must have been just a couple of weeks before Cliff Burton died.

The Cure is amazing! One of the pioneers of goth. Yes, I'm a goth fan. It's true that they had a lot of terrible songs, but their Trilogy (Pornography, Disintegration and Bloodflowers) were among the best albums of all time. You could switch out Bloodflowers with Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me...and that actually be more accurate though.

I always figured GD was probably a huge dick IRL. I tend to like guys who are a bit dickish in certain ways but I thought he'd be outside that. Glad to see that he wasn't that way to you.
One of the best parts of their shows is his improv both musical and crowd patter. I've tried to get into his solo stuff and the second iteration of them but 1965 album and forward is meh to me. I should check out their new album.

yeah he wasn't going to start, I can look a little threatening to people at times, this was one of them.

I agree, it is sad when they lose it

Yes indeed many times. I worked as a roadie in 76 for them when their first album was released. I met Bruce there and that's how I hooked on his crew. I used to go to Monmouth Park with the two of them. I went to a catholic high school there, and a lot of the wealthy kids ( we were middle class at best) went there and some of their father's were trainers/owners of horses there. So I would always go into the paddock on race days and find out all the inside info on the horses, and Bruce and Johnny would bet and give me 10% of the winnings! They were both great guys who treated me like gold.

With things opening up there are concerts popping up all around. Some bands that I wouldn't have expected to see around here will be playing in some smaller venues. I have purchased tickets for two shows so far.

The two remaining Monkees are going out on a farewell tour. They announced a last minute show at a cool old theatre that's only 20 minutes from my front door so I decided that I had to go. Yeah, it'll probably be a little hokey and won't be the same without the other two but I'm still excited to see them one last time.

Two days ago out of the blue a small, outdoor venue in KC announced that Faith No More would be there. I jumped all over that and bought VIP tickets this morning. I really thought that Red Rocks would be the one and only time that I got to see then and then this happened.

Every parents dream should be to take their kid to their first concert

I ordered Tickets this week for the Megadeth tour. I'm taking my 17 yr old daughter. It's her first concert. Growing up around me, she knows metal but she has no idea of what it's like live.
I'm not a huge fan of the openers, Lamb of God, Trivium, In Flames, they're OK - they all sound the same to me, but this will be epic! We're left of stage, lower bowl about where the Blue line would be.

My high school band drummer and his guitarist brother did a few years with Megadeth. I partied on the tour bus with them. Good times.

LOG is pretty good...Megadeth's drummer used to play for them. Well, Chris used to play for both...MD has a new drummer now. The others are hit and miss.

I couldn't remember them all if I tried.

This thread is a wonderful walk through many if them. Thank you.
