Tomato juice. When I was a kid, it made me gag.

Now it's what I get whenever I'm flying somewhere.

Easy! Brussel Sprouts! Mom boiled then until they were dead. Then along came roasted sprouts, to die for.

Cheers , BostonTim

Edit: BTW, anybody else have a mom who murdered all your veggies with boiling water?

It was pretty bad at my house - vegetables came in cans and then were boiled. No aroma, no flavor, no eye appeal.

However, we did occasionally have fresh artichokes, which were my Dad's speciality and were doused with olive oil and garlic and then steamed.

And corn on the cob in late summer, but corn is a quasi-pseudo-meta-vegetable.

seafood. didn't eat fish except tuna from a can until my 20's

And I guess it's the slow time of year that threads like this are born :coffee:

j/k - fun topic. :)

Growing up near Boston, special occasion meals out were usually at a seafood restaurant (Pier 4, Jimmy's Harborside, anyone remember the Sea 'n Surf in Framingham?) and I always liked that. For me, it required getting older to fully appreciate coffee.

My mom's cooking is nightmare fuel.

I don't think she ever seasoned anything beyond salt and pepper. She would make a boiled dinner or beef stew, both of which were horribly bland. I want nothing to do either either of these meals now - and it's strictly from PTSD.

I didn't like Swiss cheese when I was a kid, but love it now on burgers, English muffins, with ham on a croissant, etc.

And like all foodies, I get my Swiss cheese at Hole Foods.
