What Is The Last Movie You Saw

Just watched The Lost Boys at the local art cinema because why the hell not? Still one of my favorite movies of all time.

So it held up well? It's one of those movies that I thought was a fun watch but wouldn't age well...now I want to watch it again. I'll add it to my list after I get through my Coen and Safdie brothers binge.

Just saw Smile 2 this past weekend. It was awesome! If anyone saw the first one, this is one is on steroids. Much more developed storyline and superb acting. The jump scares are there but they really delve fully into psychosis and the effects of trauma. You are on the ride of your life for 2 hours. You don't have a chance to breath. Effects are great, music is great, storyline is fantastic. This is both a horror film and psychological thriller wrapped into one.

So excited to finally see another movie in this series. Cillian Murphy is back as Jim.

It definitely holds up. It's an annual watch in our house and even my teenagers will sit through it.

Saw Gladiator II last week with some friends, it was ok but some of the gladiator battles were pretty hokey, the acting was ok and overall i'd give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars.

I saw Wicked two weeks ago when it opened. Really good. Acting was superb. The storyline had some bumps and it dragged a bit but overall it was well done.

I was scrolling though Paramount+ and came across this gem of a movie from 2014. How I missed this when it came out given the all star cast is beyond me as I am a movie junkie. This movie is incredibly funny but also has the feels too.

I came across a movie named "The Accountant" on tubi, and thought I would be watching the Ben Affleck movie with that title.

Instead, I watched an Academy Award winning short film (~40 minutes) that grabbed my attention immediately and held it until the end.

His best movie imo…I don’t like him and he was very good in it.

I meant the movie, not the doc you were talking about. 🥴

The short film I mentioned is not a documentary. It's a drama, a social commentary, and a comedy. There's quite a bit packed into its 40 minutes.

Saturday night I was at the bar with some friends and I saw the trailer for The Naked Gun. I made a comment about how I might have to go see that one on Sunday. One of my friends who doesn't get out a lot because of health issues said how horrible it was going to be. I agreed. But then he asked me where I was going to see it. A light came on and I decided to give him a call on Sunday to see if he wanted to go see it. He accepted. I wasn't expecting anything but some mindless humor. To my surprise, the writers somehow recaptured all of the fun of the originals. Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson were great together. There were times where I couldn't tell if the theater was laughing at the movie or at my friend who was laughing uncontrollably throughout the whole movie. I was definitely glad that I decided to break my usual Sunday afternoon tradition of sitting around the house and go hang out with a friend.

Saw "Superman" last week with the fam. While it is nowhere in the universe of any of the Christian Bale Batman's, it's a nice shift away from the Justice League garbage we've had to endure over the past decade or so. The cast is well-assembled and Lois Lane and Lex Luthor are spot-on performances, in particular. I have never been a big "on-screen" Superman fan (I've never felt they translated from the pages of the comic book to film all that well) but I was a big fan of James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy films so that was the appeal to this film for me. Overall I'd give it a solid 6/5-7 out of 10.

All-in-all, a solid place to start with the reboot of the DC cinematic universe (as exhausting as that sounds). The recent film "The Batman" was also well-done (I'd say better than Superman if I had to rank them, but that is not an insult) and I have no idea if there is a cross-over planned, but the first two rebooted films for the top two DC characters have set them up well, if so.

My daughter and her husband went to see the movie on Friday. They both said it was very good.
My wife is not a fan of that kind of comedy, which is another example of opposites attract. However, my daughter talked her into it so we will be going to see it. It might not be for a couple of weeks unless we get a rainy day, which is not in the forecast this week.

The wife and I went to see F1 last week. I am NOT a movie guy and less so these days with all of the politics that they push in...

It was very good. Almost 3 hours of racing and crashing and losing and winning. That's it. It was sort of like a racing movie but with the a bit of Top Gun in it. The original one.

I just watched Sinners on HBO Max. I was blown away. I normally don't love period pieces but this was a one-of-a-kind cinematic experience.

It’s set in 1930s Mississippi and somehow mixes blues, vampires, and family in a way that feels haunting and alive. The story of two twin brothers coming home from war (WW1) and trying to build something — while ghosts, music, and darkness keep pulling at them. It’s not straight-up horror (I don't even know how to categorize the genre) — it’s more like a dark, soulful story that still manages to grab you and not let go. The atmosphere lingers, the music gets under your skin, and the whole thing feels bigger than the screen.

I didn't even know this until today but Michael B Jordan plays both twin brothers. He uses a different voice inflection to differenitate them. He is crazy talented. I really thought it was two different actors.
