What Is The Last Movie You Saw

I just watched "The Beaver" which is currently available for free on TubiTV.

It stars Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster, and Jennifer Lawrence.

Not a typical role for Mel - he's neither a hero nor a villain, but is a father and a CEO who suffers from clinical depression.

There are no car chases, and only minimal violence and profanity. Just a good, plot-driven movie with excellent performances from everyone.

Interesting as I also watched a Jodie Foster film from the same year (2011) called "Carnage." It is about two pairs of parents who are forced to come together and discuss a fight each of their teenage boys was involved in. The plot may sound a bit boring but this film is only 1 hour and 20 minutes long but it is wildly entertain from start to finish. It stars Jodie Foster, John C. Reilly, Kate Winslet, and Christoph Waltz. Excellent dark comedy.

Thanks for the heads-up. That movie is currently available on YouTube for free, so I'll be watching it tonight.

A little more info on the "The Beaver" - it not only co-stars Jodie Foster, it was also directed by her.

Free Beaver is a trap…

I'll admit to the conventional and saw Superman. Way better than the darker version (Man of Steel) but, man, was Krypto annoying! I know I'm in the minority with that opinion, but untrained dogs are a MAJOR pain. 🙄

WTF did they do to Superman? If Man of Steel didn't screw him bad enough, this new one is a rape of the original. I'm not just talking about the 1978 movie, but
the original comic book storyline.
Did he have a dog. No
Were Clark and Lois in a relationship. No
Was Clark's earth father alive when he was at the Daily Planet. NO
Plus all these robots were not in the Fortress of Solitude.

If some nitpickers are saying that he had a dog in the comics, that didn't happen until 1955. The original comic was 1939.
I haven't even watched to whole movie.

BASTARDS!!! :cuss:

Nonnas , if you feel the need for good uplifting movie to take your mind off of the crazy environment we are all experiencing these days.

on Netflix.

I watched Weapons and Sinners over the weekend since my wife ran off to Boston for the weekend without me and she doesn't like scary movies. I was excited for Weapons. I enjoyed it but it didn't quite live up to the hype. Sinners, in my opinion was a much better movie. But this got me to really start questioning movie ratings lately. Weapons is at a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. It was a good movie but nowhere near a 93. Sinners is at a 97%. Again, wildly overrated if you ask me.

Good feedback as I had Weapons on my watchlist but not Sinners; adding it now.

My wife absolutely loves horror and has no "line" that can be crossed - the scarier/sicker, the better for her. So far we've rewatched a few horror/thrillers with our boys:
Manhunter (80's flick, first film adaptation of a Hannibal Lecter novel)
The Lost Boys
Seven
Halloween I and II

Aside from those above, we've also watched:
Terrifier 2 (the further adventures of the evil Art the Clown - these films are not for the faint of heart)
The Mean One (think: "Winnie the Pooh" horror flick, except with the Grinch)
The Taking of Deborah Logan

Of the new batch, The Taking of Deborah Logan was the best. I give it a solid 7/10 rating. It touches on Alzheimer's within its plot so I will warn that if your family has been affected by the disease, the early goings of the movie may be difficult to watch. But if you can hang in and generally enjoy the horror genre, you'll enjoy this film.

Rewatched The Irishman this past weekend, it’s a bit long but the acting I thought was terrific.

Watched The Long Walk last night. It's based off the Stephen King novel that he actually wrote under his pen name, Richard Bachman. The setting is an annual contest set in a dystopian USA where 50 boys have to walk for as long as they can. Contestants have to maintain a certain speed through the walk or they receive a warning. 3 warnings and you are out (meaning you are killed) and there can only be one winner.

It's exactly how it sounds and the film is really well done. You'll recall The Hunger Games while watching it but the contest itself is far less sensational, more straightforward, and arguably more realistically brutal as a result.

Not the last movie I saw but one that I'm really excited for. The first Masters of the Universe trailer dropped this morning. From what I'm seeing so far, I think they just might get it right this time around. 🤞

Sinners is up for 16 Oscars which is a record. I highly recommend it if you have not seen it. Michael B Jordan is amazing. The entire cast is awesome.

I watched it and loved it. I've been trying to talk my wife into watching it with me but she's a little skeptical considering my usual taste in movies. I told her that it was nominated for 16 Oscars. Lets see if that puts it over the top. :ROFLMAO:

Update: She already texted back and said she definitely wants to watch it this weekend.

I absolutely was blow away by it! What really moved me is how deeply it understands lament and how unsettlingly it contrasts that with what the vampires offer. Sammy’s church is full of words, structure, and theology, but when it comes to grief, there’s very little presence. Lament is contained, rushed, or spiritualized. But he has the Blues as the outlet.

The vampires, by contrast, don’t explain pain or try to fix it. They stay with it. They listen. They linger. Their darkness isn’t about evil as much as it is about unflinching attention to suffering. That’s what makes them so dangerous and so compelling: they offer presence where the church offers distance. The film doesn’t let that tension resolve cleanly, and that’s its power IMO. It asks whether faith that can’t sit with grief leaves people vulnerable to anything or anyone who will.

I felt all of the acting was A+. The story telling was the best I have seen in a long time ...
