What was the vibe of your fanbase the week leading up to the SB, shooting to go undefeated?

KC fan here. Not here to troll, or discuss Brady vs Mahomes, or even Chiefs at all.

Just curious how you guys were feeling that week leading up to that game? Nervous, confident? What was the feeling you guys felt that week?

I’m probably more nervous than the last 2 SBs. Probably because even though the next one is always the most important, but for obvious reasons this just feels more high stakes. The last 2 I was nervous, but the team had already exceeded any expectations I had after being a fan since the early 90s, so although would have sucked to lose, it felt like house money to me as a fan.

Were the Patriots feeling the same way the week prior to the game, or was it just another in a long line of hard fought games they’d been through?

Appreciate any replies.

You as a Chiefs fan thinking of going for a SB 3-peat?? ---- put yourself in a Pats fans shoes going for a SB and an undefeated season

and then losing to The Helmet Catch made by a guy who then wandered off into NFL obscurity

next Sunday --- whatever you do --- DO NOT THINK about such a thing happening to you and your Chiefs

🤣😬 trust me. My biggest concern is that NE/NY SB had lots of historic implications. And at the time I thought there was no way the best coach, and quarterback in the league would get that close and not complete something of that magnitude. They were the better team all season, and had been in that situation and won it many times. And if that Patriots team wasn’t able to win that last game, will this team be able to do it?

All I can hope is it’s tight and we have the ball last with a chance to win. Otherwise hoping for a great game, and obviously a KC win. But I’m definitely getting more nervous as the game gets closer.

May I first say with a name like that you might want to check out the offensive Post thread started by @imapig 🤣
The only one I wasn't really nervous for was the first Philly one xxxix because i felt like that was their best team ever. and i think it still was the Patriots best team ever.

Easy. Sure of it. Walking on air. Just waiting for the moment. Waiting for the glory.

Yeah I think leading up to it most were fairly confident. The Patriots had beaten the Giants in the last game of the regular season, and though it was a meaningless game, both teams fought very hard to win.

With Belichick and Brady, we always felt like we had an advantage. That didn't always translate to the win though.

It was a hard game to take. I still haven't rewatched it. That was a chance at some incredible history. I think I would trade the last superbowl win over the Rams for that 07 win.

That being said, this is big for the Chiefs to be the first to three peat. It will cement them with the Steelers and the Niners dynasties I think. But I think even if they lose, their legacy is still pretty respectable from the last few years.

Honestly I thought the Pats would win it by a score or 2, without those 2 fluke wins by the Giants TFB would have 9 rings and the Pats 8 and a perfect season.

You seem to be a serious fan asking a serious question, seriously.
As my memory serves me, I was confident for a big win.
Then some ugly fat bastard of a reporter came out with a lying piece shit story saying that the greatest team of all time cheated by taping the Rams practices.
This scandalous bullshit took focus from the game and a team that shouldn't have been even close won by a helmet catch. The story was proven false later but the ugly fat bastard of a reporter was allowed to live and got promoted.

Now the Chiefs do not have to worry about anything like that happening. They have the refs on their side. The media gives the Chiefs a daily bubblebath so they won't come out with any bad stories about all the criminals on the Chiefs roster.
And the NFL is scared shit of millions of teen and pre-teen girls crying and screaming at their NY offices.
So relax.

I was really nervous because the Giants had given us such a close game the last game of the season. Also Eli is not Peyton. He is brain dead and therefore able to lead a GWD, not once but TWICE. Uggghhh!

That loss bookended by Brady’s ACL was a really tough pill.
The loss to the colts in the ACF championship the year prior was really tough too in that either team was going to beat the bears that year.

I was very nervous heading into that SB and felt the weigh of the "perfect season" just lined up to be a nut punch. the way Giants fought pats that last game of the season.
IIRC the giants felt that even though they lost they were confident they could win in the SB. had pats not been going for the undefeated season and rested starters v. Giants, how might that have played out differently ? 🤷

Great name. HALL OF FAME potential.

I just hated the whole two week lead up and mostly stayed away from any media outlets especially since the whole Spygate nonsense.

I was a young buck at the time, so I was extremely confident Pats would win and end up as the only undefeated team.

In fact, I would arrogantly say the game was a formality.

Boy did it turn ugly quick once the game went on.

Needless to say it took maybe a month before I wanted to go out of the house. I don't think I ever took a loss that hard as that one.

I always enjoyed it. I liked hearing the interviews, listening to the reports and just loved the whole, slow, steady build up to the Sunday. It's a looooong day and night here, kick off at Superbowls is always around midnight for me.

I called the loss. I did not like the earlier win over the Giants one but, and they had a team custom made to cause problems for that Patriots team: a high end RDE and RDT that prevented double teaming and risked collapsing the middle of the pocket into Brady's face, and a rock solid OL that could play ball control.

I told my wife that I was expecting a loss, and with the game going as I had feared, I actually fell asleep near the end of the second quarter (no party, was new in an area with 4 young Wanderers.)

That said, more broadly you're going through something that became very familiar - every season became more about terror of losing than joy of winning. It was kind of a drag, but as joyous as I was after the Seahawks and Falcons, it was more about how it happened. Just the winning was more of a relief than a joy.

I did not think for a second they could ever lose that game.

One of my boys was born in October 2007 and the Sox won the WS shortly after (in fact, he was asleep on my lap at a hospital not far from Fenway when Manny hit that walk-off HR vs. K-Rod in Game 2 of the ALDS. He was also on my lap for Game 1, and would remain on my lap for every game throughout the playoffs and World Series.

The Celtics had also recently traded for Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett and things were shaping up to be something special on that front.

And let's not forget about the Bru - actually, let's forget about the Bruins for about 4 more seasons from then.

The Patriots shot of the gate at an obscene clip. They were 8-0 and just demolishing everyone to cries of "running up the score."

But because of all of the Boston sports magic that was brewing, I had planned on redecorating my son's nursery (yes, his brand new nursery) as a tribute to the 2007 Boston sports season. That plan ended on the evening of February 3, 2008.
