The NE Patriots select???????????????????
Discuss, and please don't hijack the thread in spite of your compulsion to do so.
Thank you.

We could still trade down, and hopefully this will take the temptation to draft Hunter off the table.

Here's how it ended.

Bittersweet because the Pats are objectively worse than the Titans and Browns.

But due to their very own ineptitude the pick is 4th and not the 1st.

I'm leaning toward Banks with a trade down a few spots.
But, Josh Simmons from OSU may be the best OLT in the class. Has been out with a knee injury but reports are that he'll be ready by draft day.
Yeah I’m concerned about knee injuries and OLTs. But I like both.

And not for nothing I really like Milton ….Id like to see more of him. No boneheaded interceptions, so I would love to see a stronger line.

I like the kid from PSU as an edge rushers, plus the OTs from Texas and LSU. From 4, I'm still in favor of trading down for picks. One of those three would be there at 7 or 8, and I'm fine with that.

I agree Banks at 7-ish, then still would look at the LT Matt Milum in rd 2. JMHO

Makes perfect sense to me unless those in charge see 1 OT as clearly better for the team than the other 2.

I know many think the drop from #1 to #4 is a massive mistake but I'd argue that in this draft it won't matter much.
The last time this happened was the Texans and they ended up with C.J. Stroud instead of Bryce Young. Look how that worked out.
The lesson here is sometimes things work out anyway and, truth is, the top of this draft simply isn't as strong as drafts in the recent past.
I have confidence that a new HC along with a reworked personnel department with input from the new HC will get the Pats back on track to greatness.

Things for the Pats to keep in mind for 1st round 2025 draft strategies:

With picks 1-3, the Titans, Browns and Giants all need QBs so if your fav pick is Travis Hunter, he may be there for you and the Pats at 4.
Are there 3 QBs in this draft worthy of picks 1-3? Cam Ward? Shedeur Sanders? Iffy pickings imo, but QB is a position worth a gamble for a needy team.
At 4, Pats need OT, CB, DT and WR. Trade bait to use would be Travis Hunter if Pats target an OT with their round pick and the Giants don't take Hunter.
At 5, Jax needs defensive help at CB, S and interior DL. They're going defense.
At 6 the Raiders need a QB. Carson Beck could be there if they like him enough. The Raiders also need WR and defense. They could be a trade partner with the Pats.
*At 7 the Jets need a QB but this draft won't likely provide one unless they pay the price to move up. They could take an OT here so they could be competing for an OT with the Pats.
At 8 the Panthers need an interior DL to shore up the worst run D in the league.
At 9 the Saints need DE, LB, WR and OL.
*At 10, the Bears need OL badly. Another direct competitor with the Patriots.

Of the top 10 teams in the draft the Jets and Bears are the most likely competitors with the Pats for an OT.
The Pats could stay put and get their guy or they could trade back to 6 with the Raiders, a diff of only 200 pts, but at best that 200 pts would bring a 6th round pick.
For me, if the Pats want an OT, I wouldn't risk the Jets jumping ahead to 5 by trading with Jax and taking our OT.
If the Pats want a particular OT, they should use 4 to get him. Trading back returns too little gain (a 6th rounder) for a lot of risk.
But if the Pats don't care which of the top 3 OTs they get, then may as well trade back, realizing you're not getting much in return for your trouble.

I'd like to see the Pats come out of this draft with an All-World tight end (the kid from Penn State), and a quality running back or two.

Give Maye some quality at those two positions, and the existing WR corps will look a little better.

Good stuff, as usual, Chevss

Arizona McMillian provides Maye with a top-ranked big wide receiver, closely resembling Tee Higgins. They can always consider trading up in the 1st to secure a left tackle.

There is going to be movement with players over the next few months. Usually by the first of April a consensus starts to build with the most reliable draft ratings.
I'm not going to dig in on 1 or 2 players now. FA can change a lot of thinking about the draft.

I want nothing to do with Tet in the first half of the draft....now I'm not a scout, but in the "tape" I've watched of him, I see a chainmover not a game changer.....in in the top 5 you want the latter.

McMillan? Long arms, tall, fluid but not very fast. I haven't studied him to determine hand strength which Tee Higgins has in spades and hand strength is what makes Higgins successful. I've seen Mike Evans comps for McMillan but that is a crazy comp. Evans is a much more physical and stronger player than McMillan. My first impression of McMillan reminds me more of N'Keal Harry than Tee Higgins but I can't state that categorically since, as I said, I haven't studied him. Right now there are at least 15 other draft prospects I'd rather have for the Pats in the 1st 3 rounds than McMillan.

Trade up in the 1st?
That's another possibility as long as those in charge are in full agreement that the player they find at that spot will be productive.
No more players with injury histories or any other red flags, please.
Because of the Pats' lack of WR development, I'm leaning towards the Pats getting their WR1 in FA if they can find a guy willing to come to them.
Who would I target? The real Tee Higgins and Chris Godwin.

That's a significant improvement over our wide receivers. They need to acquire talent around Maye. This isn't a game-changing draft. I'd be happy with him or Banks Jr.

When you are picking in the top 5 it is the best time to try to get gamechangers, specially when there are only a couple of Blue Chip talent in the draft...you just can't pass up a Blue Chip talent for a player who is being pushed up the draft board because of lack of talent at the position.

Good/Great teams can use the draft to patch small holes, bad teams shouldn't do that.

Kraft needs to get a New GM. They hit on Maye the rest of the draft picks speaks for itself .
