World Series 2025 Thread

I'm not so sure about that. The NL West has been just as competitive over the past few years with the Dodgers and Padres duking it out, with the Dodgers emerging seemingly every time. And this year, every single division (except for the NL East) had 2-3 teams duking it out for a playoff spot.

The Dodgers have looked more beatable this year than perhaps any time in the past 5 seasons and yet they have found themselves back in the WS. There's something to be said about "knowing how to win" and the Dodgers and Chiefs in particular are currently in those modes in their respective sports; the Florida Panthers are showing signs of that as well in the NHL (should be the Celtics in the NBA but, well...).

Kudos to the Jays for getting to Blake Snell because even after that complete implosion last night, his postseason ERA is still an impressive 2.42 right now. In a 7-game series, that may have been the Jays only chance against him. I highlight this point because starting pitchers don't go very deep in postseason games but Snell pitched into the 6th last night and it's because the Dodgers middle relief is a bit suspect. I imagine that will scare Dave Roberts into going to his pen earlier than he'd like, moving forward. If the Jays can continually knock the Dodgers starters out of the game in under 5 innings, they likely have a better chance than I gave them credit for coming into the series - especially if they only end up seeing Snell one more time.

I don't have the warm and fuzzies for either of these teams so the one thing I am rooting for as someone who loves baseball is a 7-game series. Nothing better.
Good analysis. I like the ethos of the Jays, just relentlessly attack on offence, get the hits. And they don't beat themselves on D.

It's good to see that Baseball still has it's loyal fans. I feel sorry for the sport at times, as Football just bulldozed its way past it as the nation's favourite and shows no sign of letting up. At its best, baseball is really fantastic to watch, its big moments are very hard to beat in sport.

Dodgers going home for 3 games and did what they needed to do (win 1) on the road. I think the Dodgers pitching is going to be too much for Toronto and they win the series in 6.

Tend to agree. Getting a complete game gem on the road was just what the doctor ordered. Gave the bullpen 2 full days of rest before resuming at home for the Dodgers. They're in the driver's seat.

I watch these teams and think the Red Sox really aren't all that close as they appear. 3 out of the top 5 payrolls in the ALCS/NLCS and WS(2 of them from the AL East). Think Red Sox ownership will take note and spend more money? I'm guessing not.

What a crazy game. 18 innings, Dodgers walk it off (eerily familiar, no?) on a HR.

Jays used 9 P's, 8 of them pitched at least 1 inning, 3 pitched at least 2. Dodgers used 10 P's, 6 of them pitched at least 1 inning, 4 pitched at least 2.

At the end of the day, Ohtani comes up to bat in the 7th, he is already 3-3, and you throw him a cupcake right down the middle of the plate - GONE. Absolutely foolish decision.

Now they have to turn around and play again tonight. Should be fun. And, oh yeah... Ohtani is on the hill for LA.

The Jays walked Ohtani 5 times, he hit 2 hr’s and went 4-4 at the plate. Can’t wait to watch him pitch tonight. Hopefully the one doesn’t go 18 innings again.

I am not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but I can not watch nor get into baseball.

Maybe because it's a thinking man's game.
If I am involved enough to have a rooting interest, there is so much suspense I can't stand it.

If I have no interest in the team's involved I'd rather watch grass grow.

Wow. What a win for the Jays. To have rebounded after losing the 18 inning marathon. They have heart that’s for sure. This is a great series.

I am shocked the Blue Jays are making at a run at this. I really hope they can pull it off!

In 2018, after the Red Sox dropped their 18-inning affair to the Dodgers, I did not feel good, despite the fact the Sox were still up 2 games to 1.

In Game 4, Eduardo Rodriguez and an 80 year-old Rich Hill were spinning gems until this happened (watch E-Rod's reaction):

Sox were down 4-0 in the 6th and my heart was sinking fast. Then the Sox would score 3 in the 7th (Moreland PH HR), 1 in the 8th (Pearce HR), and 5 in the 9th (Pearce had a bases-clearing double) and never looked back. Such resolve (and a 3-1 series lead).

Saw similar resolve from the Jays last night. Tonight will be a rematch from Game 1 (Yesavage vs. Snell). I expect Snell to bounce back in a major way but if Yesavage can at least match his performance from Game 1, I give the Jays a shot in Game 5. Would shift the complexion of this series in a major way if they could swipe this one.

This is incredible! Another win in LA by the Jays and they're one win away from the title!

What a surreal 1st inning, two Home runs scored by the Jays on the first two pitches of the game!! Guerrero yet again hits one out. He's becoming Big Papi in the playoffs.

And what a game from Yesavage. 12 strikeouts, unreal. I love it when you get a story like this. Amidst all the big names it was assumed would dominate the series, Vlad, Ohtani, Betts etc, you have this 22-year-old kid come in and dominate, the first time ever a rookie got 12 strikeouts in a WS. That's why you have to love sports.

He's just as likable too, loves the game, doesn't take himself too seriously and has fun, seems like a genuine good dude. He's always cracking people up at first base(in the regular season).

I've met Vlad Jr. multiple times and he really is a down to earth guy. Easy to root for the person (a little more difficult to root for his laundry as a Sox fan but I am trying).

Great start to the first inning from the Jays, Gausman gets his 3 Ks. What at atmosphere at the Rogers centre.

when and why did Mookie become a shortstop?
They've had a weakness at SS since Trea Turner left. Since they have a host of capable OFers, they felt this was the best move and it's worked out for them. Mookie was actually drafted by the Sox as a 2B but was moved to the OF because he was blocked at 2B by Dustin Pedroia at the time.

Goes to show you what an incredible athlete he is. Moved from his natural position and goes on to win 6 gold gloves. Moves back to the infield and is a gold glove finalist at SS. Why can't we get players like that? :coffee:
