At the suggestion of chevss, making this a separate thread for ongoing reference.

Taking off from this list:

http://www.nepatriotsdraft.com/2014-patriots-draft-contacts

I've added a couple categories at the bottom. Also, when I can, I'll include the source of the report (folks should also try to note that in their posts, eh?).

I guess I'll also try to keep track of the "Official Visit" count. They're only allowed 30 total, although, AFAIK, local guys don't count against that limit. How local a guy has to be, though, I'm not completely clear on. Prospects from schools in MA are pretty obviously exempt, but NH, VT and Maine, IDK.

While the Pats were reportedly "very interested" in WR Abbrederis at Wisconsin's pro day, Safety Dezmen Southward (6'0"/211) also performed. He had been red-flagged by the medical staff at the Combine and held out of workouts there.
Southward, a 52-game starter for the Badgers, was invited to the Combine but was notified just before his workout that he'd been red-flagged due to a medical issue. The issue, reportedly a fracture to the C-5 vertebrae in his back, was later challenged by Dr. Bob Watkins, the same man who worked with Peyton Manning.
(Rang - CBSSports)

Southward ran in the "low 4.4's" and posted a 42" vertical and 10'4" broad jump.

Chris Borland worked out and improved on his Combine numbers a little.

The Tony Pauline report wrt the Pats' interest in Cincinnati TE Blake Annen:
Kay's tight end Blake Annen wowed scouts with his workout. Annen measured 6050/250lbs, posted 25 reps on the bench then ran his forty in the low 4.4's. Scouts on hand said Annen was a better player than Travis Kelce (3rd round pick in '13) and Adrien Robinson (4th round pick in '12) at times over the past three seasons. In the early going, the New England Patriots have shown interest in Annen.
The caveat here - that probably should be kept in mind going forward - is that any pro day that includes a TE working out with a Pats representative in attendance is likely to generate a report of "the Pats are interested in him."

There were other players there, any of whom could, hypothetically, have interested the Pats:

Greg Blair, ILB, 6011/252
Brendon Kay, QB, 6026/228 (no hand size info)

Attended, but DNP:
Austen Bujnoch, OG, 6042/290
Anthony McClung, WR/KR, 6011/177
Sam Longo, OL, 6045/304

And a half-dozen or so others, including a couple DBs and DTs

DB Alden Darby (5100/192), Arizona State, reportedly has a visit scheduled with the Pats in April (SOURCE: Byron Kline, devilsdigest.com).

09/30/13 - WEEK 5 PAC-12 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Arizona State safety Alden Darby, a senior from Long Beach, Calif., racked up two interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in the Sun Devil’s 62-41 win at home against USC on Saturday night. His fumble recovery led to an ASU field goal that put the Sun Devils ahead 20-14 before the half, while his 46-yard interception return extended the lead to 34-21 and was the second of four straight ASU touchdowns in the quarter.Darby was also third among tacklers in the game with seven, including five solo tackles. Also nominated for defensive player of the week honors were linebackers Trent Murphy of Stanford and Princeton Fuimaono of Washington; defensive end Scott Crichton of Oregon State; and cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu of Oregon.

A couple dozen other prospects participated. Complete list here:

I have to say that this is one of the most complete pro day reports I've ever seen. Wish they were all like this one, instead of the usual re-hash of the already known players.

Another site (nfldraftscout) has his forty at 4.87.
4.4 is hard to believe for a 250 lb te.

Yeah. Forty time reports from pro days are always pretty sketchy. Some schools will employ a 3rd-party timer who's results may be reported as an "official" number that the school itself reports, but most early notes like Pauline's are usually from scouts holding stopwatches with highly suspect results.

If the Pats are interested in SS in the 6th to UDFA range, Alden Darby, Southward and Hakeem Smith of Louisville should all get consideration.

Darby is 5'10" 192
Southward is 6' 211
Smith is 6' 186

There are others:
Sean Parker is 5'10 195
Daniel Sorensen is 6'1" 205 (slowest 40)

Darby is my fav of this 6th-7th rnd group as a whole. He's a player. That game on 9/30 vs USC was the final nail in Lane Kiffin's coffin. 17 points on turnovers did in the Trojans and Kiffin. Darby had a lot to do with those 17 points.

my UDFA fav for now is
Brock Vereen 6' 200. Vereen and Darby have the fastest 40s in the 4.45 area, Sorensen is the slowest at 4.65. The others are in the 4.55 range.

The SS group isn't very deep this year. Darby is projected as a 6-7th rnd pick but he's also considered a top 8-10 SS this year. If BB wants him, he may have to reach for him in an earlier round.

Couple other generalized safeties/DBs who might be UDFA contenders:

Kendall James, Maine - 5'10"/180 - 4.44/40 - 39" vert - 4.19 ss - 6.81 3-cone

Marqueston Huff, Wyoming - 5'11"/196 - 4.49/40 - 35.5" vert - 4.19 ss - 7.25 3-cone - 118" brd

Bottom line is that there should be a bunch of guys available late to make the OTAs and the Camp roster interesting.

Walterfootball is classifying the Pats contact with Cincy TE Annen as an interview. They also have a private workout listed for Billy Turner (6047/314) of N. Dakota State.

Turner received the following compilation of notes from scouts at the Senior Bowl:

quick feet, good upper strength, mean punch; waist-bender, struggles with leverage; strong hands, good athlete; excellent upside; Tues - lost confidence after struggling with speed/mutliple move rushes, then struggled vs. power; not good technique, but great functional strength compensates; significant posture issue; adequate foot speed, great hand-strike strength; only real flaw is kick-slide technique/sit (coachable); waist-bending/lunging; opens gate too quickly when sliding

They also have a Combine contact (interview) listed for Shazier with the Pats.

Maybe Turner could back up OT to allow Cannon to move to G. Or more likely, Turner's height makes him the conversion candidate. He sounds plenty strong and gave up 0 sacks in 2013 even though his technique is raw by NFL standards. Maybe Scar would 'consult'. His Pro Day is Wednesday.

2nd-3rd round pick?

3rd-4th, but rising, according to drafttek (as an OT/OG).
3rd-4th at walterfootball (as an OT only)
NFP doesn't have him listed at all
Brandt says "should be a 2nd" (even acknowledging his raw technique)

Aaron Wilson (ravensinsider) noting some building buzz for OL Kevin Pamphile (Purdue):

Purdue offensive tackle Kevin Pamphile is generating buzz as an ascending draft prospect.
At his campus Pro Day workout, Pamphile posted outstanding workout numbers to rival the top performers at the NFL scouting combine.
The athletic 6-foot-4 1/2, 311-pounder ran the 40-yard dash in 4.92 and 4.94 seconds with a 10-yard split of 1.69 seconds. He had a 32-inch vertical leap and a 9-foot broad jump, also bench pressing 225 pounds 25 times.
According to one NFL scout that attended the workout, Pampile "looked very athletic and fluid in his movement skill and positional work. He had a great day and really helped himself."
Pampile has several upcoming private workouts scheduedl.
Among the teams displaying interest in Pampile: the New York Giants, Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals, Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs, St. Louis Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars.

FWIW...

Walterfootball's contact list shows:

Ryan Shazier, Combine contact/interview
Billy Turner, Private workout

The WF list is considerably smaller than the one at NEPD, but NEPD claims to verify contacts from at least two sources before listing them. So ...

Per Loyko (via Uber Doober in another thread):

LB Jordan Tripp - PW
LB Brock Coyle - PW

Also, NEPD added Tre Mason, RB, Auburn as an unconfirmed contact a couple days ago.

NEPD has added:

Robert Herron, WR Wyoming (Pro Day workout)

Kelsey Quarles, DT, So. Carolina (PW)

and two BC guys apparently had Combine interviews with the Pats:

Matt Patchan, OL
Kevin Pierre-Louis, OLB (very good Combine workout numbers)

I'll try to review the week's pro days starting tomorrow and see if I can add anything here besides simply posting the updates to NEPD's list.

Auburn OLB/edge rusher Dee Ford says he has a PW scheduled with the Pats.
