I just read that Buffalo signed Jason Gildon to a 1 year deal. He was and could still be a great pass rusher, and coupled with the signing of Troy Vincent the Bills defense has gotten a bit better.

My opinion is that the Bills had an outstanding defense last year and got NOWHERE, and now this offseason they seem to looking at the wrong side of the ball!

In a somewhat related story I visited the Seneca Niagara Casino in Niagara Falls USA yesterday. Wearing my Pats hat was probably a bad idea and I got plenty of vulgar comments from Bills fans, and had a long talk with 4 of them. The expectations of Bills fans are much more humorous than the Charlie Prose (???? )standup I was forced to watch on the busride home!

I guess it's a good move by the Bills. It can't hurt them...... it adds depth if nothing else.

How about this unfortunate BLAST from the past: Pat's qb, Drew Bledsoe, has the Pats in line to win a very important, late regular season win vs. the Steelers. It's 1997. Our boys are up by 11 points, and Drew "directs" the club on a series from fairly deep within Patriot's territory. At this time, me (your humble steve1), and surely multitudes of faithful Pat's fans, get the feeling that:

This is the time.......the kind of time where Drew screws up, and gets intercepted at this ungodly place on the field........and there goes Drew to pass, and SHEEEEEEEEET, he has tossed it directly to a defensive lineman (or linebacker), who returns it either for the td or damned close (I don't remember which). The Steeler crowd goes crazy (the game is in Pittsburgh), and much maligned qb Kordell Stewert (Kordellia) directs the Steel Curtain to a hard-faught, overtime victory.

The Pats end 10-6, beat the Fins at home in the opening round of the playoffs, and go on to face Steelers in PITTSBURGH, not in friendly Foxboro, thanks to Drew's inevitable brain-cramp. And the Steelers win 7-6, certainly helped by homefield advantage, with their crowd behind them.

What the heck is the point of all this, you say?

Well, if memory serves me, JASON GILDON was the Johnny on the spot, intercepting boo-hoo bledsoe in the reg.season important game.

Why do I remember this so vividly? Well it must have been burned into my brain, because at the moment of that interception, or when the game was finally over, I threw my head-phone radio at the TV, and broke the radio beyond repair. And my wife was pissed at me, and said "you will never buy another one of those headphone radios again, because you will just get mad and break it again". And you'll never guess......I DID eventually buy another, and it did break, but I swear it was an accident.....I swear>>>>>>>boing crazy thinking thinkng about it!!! (I'll keep the word boing instead of going!)

post-script....guess what--I just looked up gildins stats, and he only has 2 int's to his credit in 2001 and 2003! Forget everything I said (was the interceptor's name Simon? That rings a bell). Here's a link to imformation about that game.....

Check out the rundown on the 7-6 Steeler playoff victory vs. the Pats- the fans were really booing the punter, Josh Miller. And he's the new Pat's punter (of course that was 7 yrs ago). Does the booing of the punter sound familiar?

(you just have to scroll down and voila!)

Actually, Gildon pretty much sucks. He had an astounding number of 6 sacks last year. 3 ofwhich he obtained within a single game. Now here is what Stillers.com says....

Holy crap Bionic! I don't think the writer of that little piece cared for having Gildon on the Steelers very much. Some rather funny action pictures of him getting run over, bull-dozed and just plain keeled over in action. Funny stuff. :D

I never liked Gildon really myself. Overrated...

To clarify, it was not Jason Gildon that intercepted Bledsoe's pass in that infamous bone-headed play at foxboro. It was a defensive end by the name of Henry. I'm not sure what his first name was, but I know his last name was Henry.

Correct....I checked it out, and it was Kevin Henry.

That's right, he pronounced it "Keevin Henry" (The regular season game was in Foxboro). Drew coughed up the ball in the playoff game after being hit by Vrabel on their final drive. Gildon actually recovered the fumble in the playoff game.

Right-in Foxboro......I just checked that out. Wow-thank Gawd I wasn't at THAT game. Must have been a real bummer to be at.

But....that's all in the past now

Or could you just nod your head and mumble, "typical drew"....

I remember the day after that game, I was at school, wearing a Pats hat, and walked past a guy wearing a Pats T-shirt...we just looked at each other in disbelief.

It was that game that turned me into a Bledsoe basher. :)

Hearing every excuse is what turned me into a Bledsoe basher. I was not even a fan at the time...And I still was sick of hearing the excuses.
