Welcome to Week 13 Betting! This is the week you will determine your starting bank roll for the final 9 weeks of betting (5 regular season weeks, 4 playoff weeks). Other prop bets will be added to the betting in subsequent weeks.

For this week, I want you to choose 10 of the 13 games below. Pick the winner against the spread AND the Over or Under for each of your 10 games. 10 GAMES ONLY!

Post your 10 picks like this:

Seahawks (+9.5), Under 46.5
Dolphins (-9.5), Over 50.5
etc....

You may edit any of your picks prior to kickoff of that game. Make a new post to do so though.

By picking 10 games, you are essentially making 20 bets total. Each win will add $20k to your bank roll. If you pick the spread AND O/U correctly within one game, that will gain you $50k rather than the $40k! All lines and O/U are at 0.5 numbers, so there will be no push bets. Every bet will win or lose.

Next week, I will list your bank roll by the results of these bets, and the real betting will begin Week 14. The top 5 finishers after the SB will earn carry over money for next year's full season of betting. The champion will have bragging rights and will be encouraged to be a pompous dick for the next year. If you are a lurker and have not been tagged in this post, please feel free to make your picks on 10 games and I will add you to the contest!

Any questions, please ask! If you are unsure how betting lines work, just ask. You can still play.

that would be me. 😁
Not a problem! And for anyone else who is unsure....

You will always see a minus number under "Line" on the chart. That is the number of points the Favorite is favored to win by. Let's look at the first game.

Cowboys (-9.5)

If you take the Cowboys. They must win by at least 10 points for you to win the bet. If you take the Underdog, you just reverse the minus to a plus. A Seahawks bet would be Seahawks (+9.5). If the Seahawks win the game outright OR lose the game by fewer than 10 points, the bet wins.

So, if the final score of the game Dal 31 Sea 23, a Seahawks bet wins because the winning margin (8 points) was less than the line of 9.5.

Over/Under is easier. That is the total number of points scored in the game. The 31-23 score is a total of 54 point. The O/U for the game from the chart is 46.5. An OVER bet would win this game.

Hope that makes sense. If not, please keep asking!

And just wanted to add that after this week, it will not be like this where you bet a select number of games. You will select the bets you want AND how much to bet.

The strategy of betting begins then.

We don't have to post all 20 bets up front correct? I like to wait until the not active list comes out an hour or so before the games.

I'll make sure and quote my previous bet for tracking purposes.

No, especially if you are including TNF as one of your 10 bets. Make TNF bet then the other 9 later.

But I know you. I'll get TNF tomorrow. I'll get 4 more bets Sunday at 12:59. 3 bets at 3:59. 1 more Sunday at 8:12 PM. And your final bet Monday 8:07 PM. And that is perfectly within the rules. Before kickoff.

You pain in the ass.

And I'll probably do the same, LOL.

I mean, this is to set up your bankroll. It can range from $40 to $400k (unlikely). Most people will probably end up around $200k with some < and some >. Why not just start everyone at $200k and let the betting contest begin just with these bets (no teasers, parlays, props)? That would put everyone on an equal footing.

Just my 2 cents.

First, if I wanted to hear from an asshole I would have farted.

Second, I figured it would be a fun way to let everyone determine their bank roll thru actual betting. Everyone earns their bank roll by how well they bet.

Third, I wanted to create more work for myself by recording 20 bets for everyone. I am a masochist.

Fourth, you're probably right. But it's too late now.

I had the sign up thread locked. If any lurkers are viewing this thread, feel free to place your bets and you will be automatically signed up!

Just wanted to add an expanded tutorial for those who have never bet before. Reposting the lines here. Use this as a reference when reading below.

Right now, there are two types of bets you need to know about. The first is the point spread (the column in black ink). The second is the Over/Under total (the column in green ink). You will be choosing 10 of these 13 games. Then, you will be betting the line AND the O/U for those 10 games. See bets in previous posts in the thread for what that looks like.

POINT SPREAD - You will always see a minus number here. This means the Favorite must win by that many points to win the bet. You will notice they are all .5 numbers rather than whole numbers. I did that purposely so there would be no ties (called a PUSH in gambling). So, you are not choosing the team you think will win the game. The Underdog can lose the game. But they will win the bet if they lose the game by fewer point than the betting line.

OVER/UNDER - This is the total number of points scored by BOTH teams in the game. You are simply betting OVER or UNDER based on how you think the game will go.

Let's look at three of the bets made by @Gumpboy45 above...

1. Seahawks +9.5; OVER 46.5
2. Dolphins -9.5; UNDER 50.5
3. Cards +5.5; UNDER 40.5

1st bet: The Cowboys are favored by 9.5 points. He is choosing the Underdog Seahawks. You will notice he just turned the (-9.5) into a (+9.5). If you choose the Favorite, you leave it as a minus number. He also chose the OVER of 46.5.

The score of this game ends up being Cowboys win 24-20. Gumpboy has won the first part of the bet. Seattle lost by fewer than 9.5 points. He lost the O/U bet though. The total points scored (44) was under the 46.5. He chose the OVER.

2nd bet: The Dolphins are favored also by 9.5 points. He bet for the favorite and the UNDER of 50.5 points.

The score end up being Miami 31-10. He wins the first bet because Miami won by 21, more than the 9.5 spread. He lost the O/U bet because the points scored (41) was less than the 50.5 UNDER bet.

3rd bet: The Steelers are listed as 5.5 point favorites. He like the Cardinals and changed that (-5.5) to (+5.5). He also bet UNDER 40.5 points.

The Steelers win their typical ugly game 16-13. The Cardinals lost by 3 points. Since this is under the 5.5, it's a win! The 29 points scored is well under the 40.5. Also a win!

Each bet won (there are 20 bets, 2 for each of the 10 games) will earn you $20k for betting the rest of the season. If both parts of the bet are won within a single game (like this bet) it will add $50k rather than the $40k. Don't worry. I do all the math. You just bet and watch the games.

Bottom line, don't worry about being confused. Ask any question in the thread, and there are lots of us who will answer and help.

As I was once told in an embarrassing moment...there is no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people asking a question.

Next week will look different. You will be choosing how many games to bet and how much money you want on each bet.

@Big/Sky/Fly @HSanders

I hope others who have looked at this thread but weren't sure about how to bet will join us now.
