High School Cancels Football Game because its Players Aren't Big Enough

Do you think they (Lawrence Academy) could even hang with De La Salle?

I haven't seen LA live although I have seen some of their films. LA is very good for this area but they're not as good as Servite for numerous reasons and wouldn't hang long with De La Salle IMO. LA has a few kids as talented (or even more talented) as anyone on either Servite's or De La Salle's roster but De La Salle is on another plane as a football team. No only did they beat up 14-0 Servite but they also beat up Nevada state champ Bishop Gorman earlier this year back before the Spartans really got rolling. Gorman is loaded with size and D1 recruits and they couldn't hang past half-time.

Lawrence Academy actually lost their last game of the year to Salisbury, another private school out of Connecticut. One of the issues all ISL teams face, a lack of quality depth, came up in that game when LA lost their starting QB and best defender to injury. It was still a close game that could have gone either way but LA was forced to move their top WR Marcus Grant (an Iowa recruit) to QB thereby weakening both positions and lost a 14-0 half-time lead.

This game is on Youtube so I'll post it here for you if you want to watch it. Based on what we saw from De La Salle last night and this LA/Salisbury game, the differences between the two will become pretty evident, even before the injuries occur. The tempo, the line play play and the execution in all three phases of the game are just not there. Neither of these teams would be close to De La Salle by halftime. Not that that's a bad thing. There's not many teams who do hang that long w/them.

That what one of the announcers (Petros Pappadakis?) said last night ... De La Salle may only have a few great players, but that doesn't stop them from being a great team. Kind of like the New England Patriots, 2001-2004 (and 2010?).

Even after swapping to the second string, DLS was moving the ball. These guys are the Borg.

LA Sanctioned....

Lawrence Academy football team gets penalized
Posted by Danny Ventura at 2:00 pm

The Independent School League met yesterday and leveled sanctions against the Lawrence Academy football program, stripping the school of its back-to-back league titles and placing them on three years probation.
The Lawrence Academy program received national attention on October 5, 2010 when the Boston Herald first broke the story that St. George’s School would not play Lawrence Academy, citing a competitive disadvantage and health concerns, given the size disparity among the two teams. Later, we learned that the school had ordered its coaches to essentially call off the dogs once the margin reached 35 points. AD Kathy Noble denied the notion, but several people associated with the football team confirmed the rumor was true.

LA was playing loose and fast with the rules....
