McCullough was a historian's historian. His books are some of my favorites, especially John Adams and 1776.
Surprise AOT I have a slight connection with him.

It's a great great read. But they are all so good. 1776 was the one that hooked me and from there it was one after another.
Adams was a crotchety SOB. The book got me interested enough to go down to Quincy and visit the national historical park. Which is by the way a great take.
