I tend to prefer representational art to the abstract, but while at the National Gallery a few years ago (2017, maybe?), I saw this huge abstract sunset painting which I spent a lot of time looking at. I searched for it on-line and I couldn't find it, but my search led me to the Washington Color School, and many of their paintings are similar to what I saw.
The search also led me to Gerhard Richter, who does some strip paintings in that style, but also does other abstractions, such as this one:
