I met Ken Howard at a charity event in Boston. He looked kind of bored to be hanging around there, so I say to him: "Coach, I just wanted to say that I thought you were right to suspend Salami for getting in that fight with Coolidge. It sent a message."
He looks at me with a semi-amused smile and says: "You remember that show a hell of a lot better than I do."

That is one of my better "odd brushes with celebrities" stories.
Also saw him do a one-man play as Tip O'Neill and that got him chatting a bit. He was really a fine actor.
I resisted the urge to mention Bill Russell's SNL skit "The Black Shadow -- the coach gets in trouble and the players straighten him out" or he probably would have called security on me. I loved that bit, though.
RIP, Ken Howard.
