New England's defense ranked 18th in passing yards per game last season. To make matters worse, they lost their best defensive player, Aqib Talib, in free agency. At times, Talib played like a top-five cornerback, but he dealt with several injury problems that kept him out of games.

According to ProFootballFocus.com, advanced statistics proved that Revis was the best coverage cornerback in the entire NFL from 2007 to 2012. His best year was 2009 when he led the league, only allowing 36.9 percent of passes to be complete in his coverage.

PFF is trash.

But Revis, if he can return to 2009-2011 form, is the best. Great signing and I hope we can lock him up for 3-4 more seasons.

Our defense is going to be top 5 without a doubt this year.

It will be interesting to see now that he's a Patriot if he will be flagged for
holding.

PFF is trash.

PFF is maybe over-quoted among media types (who are always looking for shortcuts to avoid doing their own homework), and is often "selectively quoted" in misleading ways. Some of their analyses/rankings are real head-scratchers, but they do watch a lot of tape and track a lot of aspects of players' games that others don't and they provide those raw stats to subscribers of their pay-site.

There are certainly things not to like about PFF, but "trash" seems a bit overboard.

There's the conundrum - if Revis plays at a level that would warrant trying to lock him up for 3-4 more seasons, he'll likely become unaffordable.

Our defense is going to be top 5 without a doubt this year.

It certainly has the potential to be Top 5, if everyone stays healthy.

Wise men say wise things.

Interestingly, PFF has an NFL FO subscription site wh/ has more than a handful of NFL teams as subscribers and it's growing. I doubt the Pats subscribe but you never know.

Well, the Pats have Ernie and digitized vids and analyses that probably take up a significant chunk of ACS capacity, so PFF may seem redundant to them.
