Winovich traded to Cleveland

Yes, all 5 aren't DTs/DEs, they're just lined up there. BB has done this occasionally for a few years using more athletic Ss and LBs as flex players in spots. Nothing new.

it certainly would not help team speed. Lazar is getting carried away - wilson is a coverage lb he will most likely only see the field on known passing downs. He is a reaction to the way teams would force the Pats LB into coverage by formationing them.
This isn't the 5-2 you remember from HS. If you think about it, at the most fundamental level the 3-4 is basically a 5-2 with the edge guys classified as OLBs rather than DEs. There are a number of distinctions, but a team with a bunch of hybrid DL types (Guy, Godcheaux, Barmore, Davis, etc.) and OLB/edge guys could do a lot worse than to create a structure where you're essentially freeing up the ILBs to be speed guys and sacrificing speed on the margin along the DL.

All that said, the defense they're running is definitely NOT anything like a 3-4 or 5-2 that any of us would recognize from our playing days (assuming we don't have any ex-NFLers on the board).

It's a shame Wino never reached his potential, but this player looks like he fills a pretty big need. If BB is able to get him onboard and playing well it might be one of those shrewd trades BB loves to make.
Problem was that he was a one truck pony, he could rush the passer, but sucked against the run and was even worse in coverage. This is why Bill played him mostly in sub packages at end to limit his coverage responsibilities, I think if he could have even been average against the pass and run he could have worked his way into the lb rotation.

That assessment is spot on. Well done.
