Goodell Announces Celebrations Are Now Allowed

I don't mind celebrations. I like them actually. I think it is good the NFL is trending this way. They have to stop looking so much like a corporate entity and let he players express themselves. This isn't the 1970s anymore and their ratings are only going to go down with the horrible product they have on the field and alternative forms of viewing via social media and other outposts.

The rule only stopped things like using the ball as a prop or team coordinated celebrating.

To be honest I also enjoyed some of the over the top celebrations that TO and Chad Johnson would do, but only because it was a select few that did it. My point was the tone of the letter indicates they are now encouraging players to "express themselves" freely whenever they score or make a big play.

Maybe its just me but it looks completely desperate that the NFL has resorted to encouraging players to do over the top celebrations to improve ratings. Reminds me of the beginning of Baseketball where you had 11 players river dancing in the end zone.

I'de love to see a gronk TD where he lifts his jersey exposing his tee shirt with this Goodell Thanks Comish

Ravens coach John Harbaugh deserves some of the credit for the NFL’s decision to ease up on celebration penalties.

Harbaugh confirmed that he’s been stating his case within the league for calling fewer penalties on celebrations, saying the game of football ought to be fun.

“Let’s have some fun. Let’s enjoy it,” Harbaugh said. “I really like it when our guys celebrate. I like it when our guys score touchdowns. I want to score a lot of touchdowns. I want to see a lot of celebrations. I want our guys to have fun, and I want our fans to have fun.”

Although Bengals coach Marvin Lewis is a vocal critic of the NFL’s new, more relaxed celebration rules, Harbaugh says he doesn’t think there was much opposition to the rule change.

“Some of these decisions are really tough that the decision-makers in the NFL have to make, and they are close calls,” he said. “This was not one of them. This was an easy one, and I think they did the right thing.”

Most fans seem to agree.

I hope Bill "suggests" his guys tone down a bit from the new norm. I hope so. Old "act like you've been there" fart.

Cheers
