Hi guys

Then I started noticing a pattern - any criticism or questioning about the Colts would typically be met by prompt rolling of eyes, non-sequiturial comments designed to derail the conversation (akin to the ostrich burying its head in the sand) and various Colt fans posting various inane 'humorous' images, and all patting each other on the back. It got old fast.

Anyone who questioned Dungy was an idiot. Anyone who dares blame, or is critical of Manning, is an idiot. I'm as big a Manning rump-swab as the next fan, but sometimes I feel the Colts fanbase would throw the entire team under the bus to give Manning all the credit sometimes - this was all the more alarming when some fans even admitted that Rhodes might've deserved the Superbowl MVP, but damned if Manning wouldn't get it. One minute Utecht is underrated and doesn't really fumble that much (with stats), the next he's a Bengal, useless and a liability. One minute we have the best running game in the league (and I remember getting blasted plenty of times, in a condescending manner, on Indystar for voicing concern for it) - next minute it faded down the stretch, and only now in the off-season do people tacitly acknowledge it.

That happens on a lot of boards. One of the reasons I like this one so much is that it's laid-back. A lot of people are given free rein (or is it reign?) to question the team. On some boards, as you say, you question them a little and it immediately turns into a "you suck! no, you're an idiot!" debate.

What was, and still is ironic, is the fact that the Colts fans on those boards constantly rip on Pats fans, claiming they are obsessed with the Colts and constantly posting threads about what they say about the Colts on Pats message boards, then lo and behold, the Colts boards are littered with nothing BUT Pats posts - started by Colts fans. Everyday, nothing but posts about Spygate and complaints about the trolling Pats fans - the hypocrisy was amazing. Ironically, having spent a few days on the Pats messageboard, I've yet to see many Colts-related threads, so clearly the obsession is one-way. But maybe that's also because Pats fans have too many other people to be p'd off at right now.

It's weird. We do see the Colts as a main rival, along with San Diego, but since they're not in our division it's not as passionate until the Pats-Colts games roll around. Also, it's a bit of a Yankees/Sox thing; since the Pats have been on top more often, it's easier for the chasing team to be more obsessed. You would think that, like the Sox, since the Colts have finally won a SB they would ease up a bit, but....

Why did I come to Patriots Planet? Simple reason really - I guess I have a certain love-hate relationship with Midgar from the ESPN Messageboard . . .

 TMI! :thailor: ROFL

If the Pats Planet proves to be a bunch of Brady-worshipping cultists, I'll take my ball and go home too, but so far I've yet to see any lynching for suggesting Manning might be the #1 QB right now.

As I said, we're pretty open to opposing fans, and we're pretty laid-back. But we ARE Brady-worshipping cultists. :D We won't lynch you for suggesting Manning is #1, but we'll shake our head sadly and wish you quick recovery from your dementia. :poke: But we're not Homer fans either; you'll find plenty of people around here who see the Pats' shortcomings. For example, we'll be happy to take Bob Sanders and Joseph Addai off your hands...

I don't expect this post to even remotely change the way Colts fans think of me, since I've now committed the ultimate crime of treason by apparently consorting with Pats fans . . .

Don't worry, many Colts fans dabble in the Dark Side over here. I think it helps remind them why they remain pure and steadfast in the worship of Saint Dungy and Peyton. ;)

Now you know darn good and well that we Colts fans here are not like that.

Dashoe? I bet if a colt fan came to this board and started bashing the pats, talking spygate, cheaters, brady is gay, no colt fan would question him as being a colt fan.

I haven't read this whole thread (too many pages), but don't forget to visit the Asylum also and visit our resident Pats hater, Dolphin22. He will do his best to enlighten you on how the Pats have been cheating over the last 6 years.

Oh yea, and welcome to the board.

In fact get this one, if he is arguing and you show him where he is wrong, he will admit it!!!

Sometimes there can be a certain joy, if in the act of being wrong, you learn something new. Just not when it's Colts related :D

But in general, I try to make that my attitude (with varying degrees of success - at the end of the day we ALL have biases, even if we cloak them with stats and facts). Admittedly Midgar, there've been times I've debated with you, knowing deep down I'm wrong - but as you've noted I'll ultimately yield when it just becomes absurd to continue to cling to an indefensible point.

Well, I don't lump dashoe in with the rest of us.

I was talking about the good ones (tmack, jaric, dred, ICB, etc.).

You know, the ones who've managed to NOT be AC'd or banned! ROFL

My cousin the Steelers fan told me about a Titans board - don't recall if it was a fan forum or something on their official website - where as soon as you said anything negative about the Titans you were banned. Apparently they were having so many problems with trolls they went to a "zero tolerance" policy.

I couldn't stand that. I HATE it when people accuse me of "not being a true fan" if I complain about the team. I get mad at my wife at times, but that doesn't mean I want a divorce. When you see dumb moves that make you angry, of course you want to talk about it.

It's just that last season there wasn't that much to complain about until Feb. 3.

Yeah I know, I was a little too hasty with some of my comments and I attribute that to certain bitter feelings still being fresh. For now, I'll just say that ColtFreaks isn't for me, and likewise I'm not ColtFreaks material - I think that sounds fair. I guess the culture of each message board is unique in its own right and I shouldn't make blanket statements about an entire fanbase, when I know every team has its share of tools.

And like I said - we'll see one way or the other what I'm really about, but for now I can only give you my word, until it's proven worthless, that I'm about what I claim to be about.

I don't care if what NFL team this guy likes the best, I already know he's a douche.

1. Nobody cares
2. He says this as though Coltfreaks is a religion that he tried and renounced. It's a friggin' internet message board. "Well, I tried out the Ebaumsworld way of life, but in the end, I had to do some real soul searching and you know what God told me? I'm a CollegeHumor person. Once I understood myself, life took on a whole new meaning. Things are so clear now. I have direction. I have purpose." DORK.
3. There are no two ways about it. He was banned for using multiple screen names. The IP addresses were identical for his two user names, and he was banned. Simple. Now he's here and loving it, I'm sure, that he gets all this attention for nothing other than simply being a normal, run-of-the-mill douche.
4. Quit typing up posts that take up 3 entire screens. Nobody is reading them, and you're making no points and earning no points.

I guess this is where I'm ultimately at fault, and that was in my assumption that all message boards neccessarily want to engage in objective debate. Different message boards have different cultures, and some make no apology for being a bunch of belligerent fanatics towards people who come into the fold, especially fans of other teams. My problem is that the IndyStar folk always seemed to pride themselves in being "classy" and open to intelligent discussion - to ColtFreaks credit, I don't believe they ever claimed to do any such thing.

I am however, not telling the whole story, and it's true that IndyStar did have a mild problem with Pats trolls, but no worse than any other message board and initially, it was actually very tolerant despite numerous posters imploring the mods to ban some of the more extreme elements. I think that was the best period of Indystar, but it sort of went down hill fast. I always felt that the difference between a forum like IndyStar and ColtFreaks was that the latter was a purely fan-administered community, whereas the former was more of an "official" fanboard, since it belonged to the Star and I assumed that would imply a more tolerant attitude, which was true for awhile.

Evidentally you cared enough to read, and hence reply. It was a long reply because enough of you raised a ruckus to merit it and I don't have time to address everyone's individual post in detail (ironically the one big reply saves time).

I never denied I didn't post under another username, and frankly I could care less. Oh boo-hoo, my obvious troll username on another message board had negative infinity reputation points. Wahhhh.

But I'll agree with you though, it's just a message board. You have an ignore button - I suggest you use it.

I've read the posts and you seem like an ok guy to me.The fact that you get tmack, thread savage and mayhem's panties in a bunch is just a bonus!:thumb:

Whatever happened to alot of the Indystar posters? It didn't help that the exodus had already begun BEFORE the new monstrosity of a board came up. Do you post on any other Colts boards?

That is fair, much more so than originally....although I disagree about ColtFreaks. I wandered the web after the demise of rats and ColtFreaks is about as comparable in 'flavor' and 'attitude' to Patriot Planet as anything I found. It's NOT a circle jerk and if you think that, you'd be very wrong. Hell, the Colts fans even bust each other, even before opposing fans get involved.

I do think that each board has a uniqueness and everyone needs to find a 'home'. The fact that you pretended to be a Giants fan, then a Pats fan didn't win you any points. Had you simply showed up as yourself, you would have had a reasonable reception no matter which team you call your own.

Anyway, carry on. This Colt fan has had more than enough to say on this topic.

I asked yesterday about Boston Irish, but I meant Boston TIM. Does Tim still hang out here?

I'm not a mod, but you might get in trouble for saying stuff like that. He doesn't seem to be pissing anyone off except you.

I'm actually digging ColtsFreaks the more I check it out.

Wouldn't go so far as comparing it to PP just yet though.

They are lacking a Babes thread, Insomniac thread, multitudes of polls by miscreants such as Thomas, Arcade and Casino, and no OT threads in their NFL forums ... for starters.

I understand its a work in progress though and I can see some good things happening over there if they keep it up.

I think the tailgate mentality over here is what makes this place special.

;)

Aren't you mostly a Cranky regular, dred? (also a good board, btw)

Well, that and the fact that--like a tailgate--most of us are half in the bag when posting. ROFL
