Ok, so let's go ahead and rank the New England States
(Also I propose we change OT to OS for Off Season)

Also, in the interest in keeping this fair, name your home state before you start
Maine

1. Maine
Pros: Let's face it.....it's just better then your state
Clean air, nice open minded people, and quality scenic views.

Cons: Completely and utterly broke. Baldacci, I hate you so much.

2. New Hampshire
Pros: Not completely bankrupt, scenic, friendly

Cons: God damned you and your bridge

3. Vermont
Pros: Really open minded people, quality driving

Cons: people from Vermont seem to be a little snotty about being from Vermont

4. Rhode Island
Pros: Small, can only be found by some one who's already been there (similar to Isle De Meurte)

Cons: Surrounded by Massachusetts and Connecticut

Massachusetts:
Pros: Proud legacy of independence.
Cons: seems to have some sort of British penal system, except instead of sending convicts to Australia, you send Assholes to Maine. Are terrible terrible drivers. (No you are, don't try and fight it)

Connecticut:
Pros: ......seemed to have the nicest weather

Cons: every thing Massachusetts has going against plus a strong New York influence.

I haven't spent much time in ME, VT, or CT. But they're all gorgeous.

I love NH.

I grew up in Boston, so of course I love MA.

I now live in RI, which is pretty decent.

I guess I'd rank it a five-way tie.

CT.... Well, it gets a bad rap 'cause it has so many bedroom communities for New York, and so many Yankees fans... and Long Island is annoying. But I'm sure the interior of CT is pretty. And they have the casinos. And Mark Twain spent a lot of time in Hartford. But it would still come in last.

For me, then, it would be MA, NH, RI, ME, VT, CT.

#1. New Hampshire. Live Free Or Die!

#5(5 way tie, only because there aren't more choices) ME, RI, CT, MA, VT!

Well, I sorta put them in decending order of suckitude, but still...

#1. Massachusetts

- home of the NEP, Red Sox, Bruins, and Celtics

#2. Maine

- there's just something about that state that I love.

#3. NH

- see above

#4. VT
#5. CT

- they got 2 casinos

#6. RI

- Providence is fun, but the people there can't drive for shit. Plus, they all have an annoying NY accent and it pisses me off. Another plus is they have drive through liquor stores, but it's not enough if you ask me.

Dude!

You live in the f-in Boston area!

How can you even BEGIN to comment on the driving abilities in another area?!?!? ROFL

I heard the accent a few times. It's sort of a cross between Boston and New York. And they do have their own lingo. (A water cooler is a "bubblah".)

We do have Newport, which is always good for a mansion tour. But, yeah, honestly there's not that much remarkable down here. When I was younger I'd wander to Providence for the occasional rock concert, that was about it...

1) CT: None of these other states have even one aceofspaide living in them, Its the front line of the NY, New England rivalry
2) MA: Boston is the best city in New England
3) ME: Most badass state in New England, lumberjacks and hunters, plus most of my family lives there so I spend a lot of time there
4) VT: Skiing, I don't know much else about it but thats good enough
5) RI: CT's beach house, they have funny accents
6) NH: I have no idea what happens in NH, i wasn't even sure that it was still a state

Edit: for CT: Red Sox and Patriot players spend a lot of time here in our fine casinos

New Hampsta is the only quality New England state. I had the distict privelege of living there for several years some time ago! The govt does not feel it needs to stick its nose in your business in NH, nor does it see fit to continue the "entitlement" carosel that other states do. Good memories of sharing six packs with cops while firing our assault rifles and talking politics at their range, behind town hall(we broke out the beer after the guns were put away). Legal fireworks. No open bottle law. No helmet or seat belt law. No gun laws. No sales tax. An income tax that does not begin until you have capital gains or earn six figures in salary. The cheapest alcahol in the region. And you can get beer 24 hrs a day at the local convienience store. Low tobacco taxes. I could go on and on. Plus, they have a good sea shore and the most breathtaking mts east of the Mississippi!

1). Maine

pros- O.Z.O.'s homeland, perhaps the most beautiful place on Earth

cons- very poor, my mother, step-father, and sister all still live there

2). New Hampshire

pros- no state income tax, cheap liquor, Franconia Notch/White Mountains, Hampton Beach

cons- Portsmouth is a DUMP

3). Massechusetts

pros- Sox, Pats, Celts

cons- Massholes (brings the pros down significantly)

4). Rhode Island

pros- beautiful homes

cons- don't know, never been there

5). Connecticut

pros- uh...give me a minute...

cons- O.Z.O.'s dad lives there

6). Vermont

pros- beautiful countryside

cons- wall-to-wall Liberals, Howard Dean (I know, that's redundant)

1) Maine: Perhaps still the most "New Englandish" of all the states w/ lighthouses, cute downtowns, farms, architecture. All that coast, low population density, huge north country. Portland rocks. Although, the term "Mainiac" is often used and is quite appropriate.

2) NH: Lakes, mountains, ocean = close to the holy trinity. But, lower half = Mass Jr., increasingly. Can't use my own lake/mountians on weekends because clogged with MA people = bummer. Close to Boston.

3) VT: Rivals ME for most "New Englanish". A little too far from the ocean keeps it from #2 or even #1. Maybe the best state for just driving around. Burlington rocks. Perhaps the best female talent in NE, above Boston.

4) RI: Feels like it's own little country. Newport rocks, Providence slightly less. Essentially one big coast, but has a little too much of a seedy side for it's close proximity to itself.

5-6) TIE, MA & CT: Both have great PROS, like Boston, Cape Cod, Casino, nice coastal towns, etc, but both are also the only two states I wouldn't voluntarily live in. I guess, to me, these seem the two (considered as a whole) that are least New Englandish. Most costly, most congested, most of well, everything. Too much for me.

BTW: this seems like a good time to ask, because I was looking this up the other day to no avail:

What are time restrictions for beer/booze sales in each state, both retail and bar closing times?

What I know:
NH: beer until 11:45 pm, but most stop at 11:30. Booze is only at state stores. Bars close at 1:00 am, most stop at 12:45.

MA: Bars until 2:00 am.

After that,
Thanks in advance.

ROFL

Every convienience store outside of the cities sells beer 24/7/365.25 That was the least enforced law in the state! (unless things have changed). But due to my schedule always having sucked, I used to pick up a six on my way home at 2:30 or so in the morning.

Best NE state, imo is Maine!
Two different landscapes: rugged coastline and wilderness. I love it!
River rafting (Dead River, Kennebeck, Penobscot), Moosehead Lake, Camden, Bar Harbor, Portland, Arcadia Nat'l Park, Mount Katahdin, Lighthouses, mussels you can pick off the rocks and steam later, cheap lobster. My brother.

And I just read today that outside of Portland is one of best places to live now.

Second Best State: New Hampshire. Franconia Notch, lotsa good mountain areas, Lake Winnipesaukee area and lots of family for me.

Massachusetts: Boston. America's most European city. Newbury Street, History and Culture, Cape Cod, Tanglewood. Sister's home on the Cape. Lots of family.

Worst: Connecticut.
