Koko the gorilla passed away at 46 years old today. Probably the saddest I've felt over any celebrity passing. National Geographic's Conversations With a Gorilla and Koko's Kitten were two of my prized possessions as a child. I wrote multiple reports on Koko in school because of how fascinated I was with her and gorillas in general. Thankful for everything Koko helped teach the world about gorillas emotional capacity and their ability to learn language.

Koko was the inspiration for the gorilla in Congo.

The movie was gawdawful, but the book is actually damn good. One of the things lost on screen is the talent of a gorilla who can sign.

Just one of many changes from the book to the movie, and all of them bad.

That book was great. Definitely my favorite Crichton book and one of my favorite adventure novels. That is one movie I wish they would remake. With the advances in CGI, I think they could do it well now.
