It's Mayo

“First black coach in Patriots history”
I think that’s got a lot to do with this hiring. Kraft is old and is thinking about his legacy. This takes a ton of heat off of him from the media and who he hires to replace Bill. It’s nonstop about how the league needs more black coaches. I promise, you will hear no criticism of this move from any national media.

I think Mayo would be a fine DC. The patriots in 2024 need an offensive mind who can choose and develop a young QB. I don’t see how this hiring solves any of the problems the team has.
I'm not sure. I think it has more to do with comfort level.

With all the good, candidates to be the next head coach. They go with a guy with no exp. I hate it. yuk.

He has exactly zero experience as a coordinator, Kay. Also, Andy Reid came from one of the greatest coaching staffs of all time. The mid-90s Packers. Sherm Lewis was the OC, Mariucci was the QB coach, Gruden, Morningwheg and Reid were all on staff. All went on to be head coaches.
Think 'Dola was the only one tapping that? I do wonder at times because the NFL has changed drastically and things are being down very differently now than they were then. I am very, nervous about the Pats going forward now. Part of it is the Mayo hire, the other is ownership meddling.

He was for a minute, before he went on to greener pastures.

I am far, far, FAR more concerned about Kraft's meddling than I am with Jerod Mayo.

Yeah the thing that is bothering more and more is Krafts either A) a blatant liar or B) a complete bumbling idiot. I really don't know what is worse because you can't tell me he doesn't have a list of things that went wrong and why they needed to fix it.

Either way, that is the dude who decided to do this? That not very confidence inspiring and everyone should take note of that.

Well, I'm sorry, but Kraft suggesting yesterday that managing a cardboard box company means he understands how to run a football team means he's a blathering old fool.
Yeah. 6 SBs in 18 years. He's a fool alright.

I mean, he's been very good at running a football team - when he, you know, stayed the fuck out of the way. He meddled before, 28 years ago, and caused Parcells to lose his mind and tamper with the Jets. Since then, there's only a handful of times he's gotten involved since, but it's clear he's taking back control of the team. Maybe he's had some chats with Jerry Jones over some old fashioneds.

The issue is, Kraft is a genuine fan. That's a problem when you're an owner. The team becomes your precious baby and you think that a lifetime watching them means you're qualified to analyse and make football decisions. You figure, why the hell shouldn't I be fully involved? I own the team! I care about the team, I'm a fan after all!

The only reason he didn't interfere when BB was here was because of Bill's success. It was revealing that Kraft said it was only after the 3rd SB win that he gave BB "full control' because he felt he "deserved it"!

His inclination, and I'm sure Jonathan is the same, is to involve/interfere. We are in for a really messy few years with a chaotic committee-style approach to managing all team aspects.
