I'm curious to see what the collective thought here is on possibly trading the 34 pick for Tee Higgins. Obviously there are quite a few variables in play but my thoughts are that if they do intend to take a QB at 3, it would be better to pair him with a talented vet than say another rookie wr. Granted your looking at a contract that would exceed what Ridley just got, but think the upside to the development of rookie QB would be well worth it not to mention the stability of having a legitimate 1# wr locked down for the foreseeable future would be something we haven't had for years.

I am onboard. But are the Krafts? He's franchised so it's almost $22 million for 2024 and I am sure a 25 year-old diva WR in his prime is going to want to cash in with a second team if the Bengals decide to move him.

It's not that I am against this move so much as I don't believe they'll shell out a contract to the player ~$22 million per year (or more) for 4 or so years.

I'd love it, but if they can't be assed to trade a 4th round pick for Keenan Allen, or spend 11 million for Hollywood Brown, I don't see them trading a 2nd for Tee Higgins.

Guys, you all know I loved Keenan Allen but he isn't the same player he was 10 years ago. 31 is the cliff for WRs and he's 32 next month.
Justin Jefferson is 24 and Tee Higgins is 25.
Those I jump on.

Jefferson yes. Higgins...eh.

Keenan Allen isn't the same player he was 10 years ago. He still had 108 catches for 1243 and 7 TDs last year. Yeah, I'll take 80% of that, he'd be by far the best WR on the roster.

Julio's lesson. Age hits suddenly and it hits hard.

age 29: 1,677 yards/8 TDs
age 30: 1,394 yards/6 TDs
age 31: 771 yards/3 TDs
age 32: 434 yards/1 TD
age 33: 299 yards/2 TDs
age 34: 74 yards/3 TDs

It's a moot point, because a 4th round pick was too rich for Wolf.

But we signed 30 year old Kendrick Bourne coming off an ACL to a 3-year extension, so there's that. :coffee:

I'm starting to think it's less about the 2nd round pick and more about the contract. It's early and I'm not going to go overboard with the "Krafts are cheap", narrative but we've watched them now pass up multiple opportunities to get better and the only cost is money. Are you telling me not one of the available weapons could could have been signed? Half the reason I started this thread is because I want to believe that they do have a plan, I just can't believe they want to draft a rookie QB, and pair him with a rookie wr as well.

He will be looking for 25+ a year. The option for us is likely to not spend that money…

With the most cap space of any NFL team, for the next 2 years.

Even after all the ZOMG MOVEZ from the front office so far, they still have the most cap space in the NFL, currently. That's terrifying.

I'm really not trying to make reactionary judgments because it's early but do they really want to sell us that not one of these wrs would help? 🤔 Maybe they have a plan, maybe they have multiple plans but if they think they aren't going to have to over pay to bring some weapons in, their sadly mistaken. 😕

Even though I don't love Allen's age, for a 4th rnd pick I'd have jumped on that deal.
He'd be a great mentor for our WR room. He'd teach these dumbasses we currently have how to run a proper route. He'd make all of them better, including Thornton.

An All-Pro QB can make even a JAG wide receiver look really good.

An All-Pro WR doesn't move the needle very far for a JAG quarterback.

The priority should always be to get the right guy as the trigger man for the offense. Then build the offensive line. The RBs, WRs and TEs are fungible once those other two elements are in place.

Josh Allen wasn't great until Stephon Diggs

Tua was a borderline starter until Tyreek Hill

Would Purdy be good without Aiyuk, Deebo and McCaffrey?

Build a team around a QB or drop a QB onto a good team. Teams have done it both ways with success.

And Montana still needed Rice and also Roger Craig to do a lot of the yard yards and take the burden off.

I still don't think that Josh Allen is great. He's 5-5 in the playoffs with zero Super Bowl appearances. That mean zero wins in the AFCCG.

Tua has been around for four years, and is 0-1 in the playoffs. That's not a track record that cries out for the characterization of "great" despite the gaudy stats he sometimes puts up.

Purdy is more interesting - he's certainly surrounded by some very talented skill position players, and I think you're correct that they carry the team more than the QB. You scored a point on me with that one.

Fungible. Good word.

I do enjoy the occasional magic carpet fungi ride.

I'm fungible.

Look at Allen's and Tua's stats before they got those WRs. Jags.
