Appearances:

You've probably heard (or read in Idol Chasers) about Diana DeGarmo's many roles in Broadway shows lately, and here's just a reminder to go see her as Penny Pingleton in Hairspray. The show runs every night Tuesday through Saturday until May 14 at the Neil Simon Theatre in New York.

Bo Bice, runner-up of Season 4, will be performing at the Val Air Ballroom in West Des Moines on March 14. Tickets are only $12; the show's at 7:30PM.

Season 3's Jasmine Trias is finally back in the States and getting back on the road. On March 17, she'll be headlining the Rage Night Club in Los Angeles, then on the 24th, the Sycuan Casino in El Cajon, CA. The next day (March 25), she'll also headline at the Stockton Civic Center in Stockton, CA.

On March 25, Kimberly Caldwell and Ruben Studdard are going to be playing The Aladdin Theatre in Las Vegas at 8PM.

Also on March 25, you can meet Kimberley Locke at the Lane Bryant at The Summit Sierra in Reno, from 12PM-2PM. The first 100 in line will get an autographed copy of her new single, “Supawoman”.

While Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood has just landed 41 new tour dates and many appearances with huge country artists such as Keith Urban, Phil Vassar, and Montgomery Gentry, the place you'll be seeing her this month is on TV. Hopefully, you caught her singing her single, "Jesus Take the Wheel", on the results show of American Idol last week. On March 13, Carrie will appear on the "Late Show with David Letterman" at 11:35PM ET/PT, and on March 14, she'll be on "Live with Regis and Kelly" at 9AM ET/PT. During these shows, she'll be singing her new single, "Don't Forget to Remember Me". Carrie will also headline a live performance with Lee Ann Womack and Loretta Lynn on a special episode of "Grand Ole Opry Live", called "Women of Country" on March 18.

I know you've all been waiting for that Reality TV Celebrity edition of Fear Factor, and it's finally here. Competing is the American Idol pair Anthony Fedorov and Carmen Rasmusen of Season 4 and Season 2, respectively. The show will air on March 21, 28, and April 4. According to Carmen's website, Carmen wrote a song about her experience on the show called "You Scare Me to Death". Sounds like a hit.

Please don't forget to watch "Idol Chat" on TV Guide Channel every Tuesday...you'll get to see Season 2's Kimberly Caldwell discuss Idol matters with fellow correspondent Rosanna Tavarez and interview former Idols such as AJ Gil, who visited this past week.

Hopefully, all of you watched the Idol results show this Thursday and the week before, where Carrie sang her single, "Jesus Take the Wheel", and Bo rocked out his single, "The Real Thing". In my opinion, both did an excellent job. It's not too often that two Idol alumni get the opportunity to come back home and show America it made the right decision.

Rumor Mill:

Yes, it's true, Kimberley Locke did move to NYC recently. But in this update, I have more news than just moving info - I've got the scoop on TONS of new albums coming from LOTS of Idols!

Unconfirmed Rumor - There's a rumor going around that Season 2 winner Ruben Studdard's next album, Return of the Velvet Teddy Bear, is waiting approval from the label and should have an April/May/June release. These spring/summer dates seem like an ideal time for lots of Idols to drop their new works.

Unconfirmed Rumor - Season 2's Josh Gracin's sophomore album, titled All About Y'all, is rumored to have a June 20 release date, but some other sources say it'll be dropped in April or May.

Unconfirmed Rumor - Another unconfirmed rumor floating around is that Amy Adams of Season 3 (the woman with the pink hair who, last year, had a baby and toured with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat) has a country album in the works. Very interesting...

Unconfirmed/Confirmed Rumor - As for another Season 3 Idol, winner Fantasia just started working on her new album about three weeks ago. Getting Maroon 5 and Kanye West to be featured on it is in talks (but not confirmed yet).

Unconfirmed/Confirmed Rumor - Anthony Fedorov from Season 4 was recently interviewed on Good Day Live in New York, where he said he is finishing selecting the songs for his album and is planning on releasing it after summer. An unconfirmed rumor is that this CD will have both English and Spanish tracks on it (if you heard his Latin ballad during the summer Idols tour, you'll know how legitimate this really is).

Unconfirmed/Confirmed Rumor - Clay Aiken, runner-up of Season 2, will hit the recording studio this month to work on his next album. The gossip reads that it might hit stores this May.

Unconfirmed/Confirmed Rumor - Season 4's Lindsey Cardinale has confirmed in OK! Magazine that she is in the process of writing songs for her debut album. There is also a rumor that she has gotten a few offers from some labels, but hasn't accepted any.

Confirmed Rumor - Kim Locke's anticipated single, "Supawoman", is finally going to hit the airwaves sometime this month! It's also been confirmed on her website that her album, Based on a True Story, has been pushed back to June 6.

Confirmed Rumor - JPL (Jon Peter Lewis, of Season 3) appeared on "Idol Chat" a couple of weeks ago, and he mentioned his EP will be released sometime in April. He also said something about a tour to promote it... finally!

Confirmed Rumor - AJ Gil also made an appearance on "Idol Chat" recently, and said on the show that he has just finished his album and can expect it to be released "by the second quarter.

Confirmed Rumor - Just a week ago, a special episode of "The Tyra Banks Show" aired, where former Idols Ryan Starr, Tamyra Gray, Kimberly Caldwell, Mikalah Gordon, Matthew Rogers, Anthony Fedorov and Vonzell Solomon were guests. On the show, Vonzell talked about her new record deal with Rowdy Records, an independent label distributed through Universal Records who also produced hits for TLC and Boys II Men. Hopefully, we'll be getting about some Vonzell album news soon...and you'll hear it here first!

Confirmed Rumor - For those of you who were waiting to get a little more of Anwar Robinson (of Season 4), he has a new "CD" for sale on www.anwarrobinsonfansite.com. It's only three tracks, but he did promise a March release, right?

Confirmed Rumor - Carrie Underwood finally joined the Country Music Association on February 15. You probably know this group as the one that puts on the CMA Awards every year. Carrie's also now scheduled to perform at the CMA Music Fest in June, which you'll hear more about in Idol Chasers as the date gets closer.

Confirmed Rumor - Although it may be old news, I just thought I'd mention to prevent confusion that Camile Velasco from Season 3 is NOT with Motown Records anymore. She is now booking gigs independently, and has one single released.

Confirmed Rumor - Finally, some confirmed news on Constantine's mysterious sitcom, which is still being referred to as "the show." According to his blog on his website, Constantine has received the script to the pilot of the show. His reaction? "IT'S AWESOME!! I really dig it!!" Oh, Con, don't be afraid to hold back all your enthusiasm.

Chart-Toppers:

Carrie and Kelly are still hanging at the top of the Billboard Top 200 chart, with Some Hearts at #9 (from #7 last week) and Breakaway at #14 (from #11 last week). Somehow, Bo has dropped all the way to #132, with over 8,000 sales this week. On the Hot 100 Singles chart, Carrie's "Jesus Take the Wheel" is up one at #28, but Kelly's "Because of You" is down one at #20. Also, "Walk Away" by Kelly is up at #27 from #32 last week. Carrie's album is still the #1 Country Album though, and her summer release of "Inside Your Heaven/Independence Day" is still the #1 Country Single. Go Carrie!

In case you are addicted to MTV (like so many teens and adults in denial are these days), I'll note that while the album isn't exactly climbing the charts, Bo's video for "The Real Thing" hit #1 on TRL. Meanwhile, Kelly's "Walk Away" video is at #7. Another #1 congratulations goes to Carrie Underwood for "Jesus Take the Wheel" hitting the top of CMT's Top 20 Countdown!

Idols in the News:

Oh yes, now it's time to talk about all those awards our Idols have been winning!

Remember when I said George Huff was nominated for two GMAs? Well, that number's been upped one since he was also recently nominated for New Artist of the Year. George is also up for Urban Recorded Song of the Year (for "Brighter Day") and Urban Album of the Year (for Miracles). The awards will be held on April 5 at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.

Yeah, it's been a really long time, but for those of you who have been living under a rock, I have the scoop on how the Idols did at the Grammys. Kelly won both her nominations (Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album), but suspiciously, did not mention American Idol at all in her acceptance speech. Fantasia lost all four of hers. Better luck next time, Fantasia. And if you watched that Sly and the Family Stone performance, maybe you noticed the bassist looked a little familiar. As it turns out, AI judge Randy Jackson (who was in the band, Journey, in his hey-days) was simply attending the awards when he was called to fill in on-stage because of an emergency. While the real bassist was backstage tossing his cookies, Randy was rocking it out with Sly and the Family Stone!

Although Carrie Underwood didn't have a shot at the Grammys, she's racking up other nominations like crazy. The video for "Jesus Take the Wheel" is nominated for Female Video of the Year, Breakthrough Video of the Year, and Most Inspiring Video of the Year of the CMT Music Awards, to be announced on April 10. As for the Academy of Country Music Awards, Carrie got to announce the nominees with - her idols - Rascal Flatts. She was surprised to be nominated for Top New Female Vocalist AND Top Female Vocalist, as well as Single of the Year and Song of the Year for "Jesus Take the Wheel". Her reaction: "I don't expect to win them. I'm just excited to be nominated." The ACM Awards will be broadcasted on CBS on May 23. As if that weren't enough, Carrie also just won the title of Best New Artist from the Radio & Records Readers' Poll 2006. The Idol winner is recognized as "undoubtedly the breakout star in country music last year." At this rate, Carrie's going to have momentum for years to come.

Jasmine Trias, the Mililani, HI native from Season 3, just won a Hawaii Music Award for Best Pop Album. Although her American release didn't even make a dent in the charts, her Philippines release sold 150,000 copies there.

ShoWest has just declared Jennifer Hudson, Season 3 diva and star of the upcoming film, "Dreamgirls", the ShoWest "Female Star of Tomorrow". Says the director of the ShoWest convention, "With her combination of acting and singing talent, Jennifer has the star qualities that promise her a bright future in Hollywood." After her movie premieres this December, we can expect Jennifer to be on a roll.

Yet another recipient of an award, Season 4's Bo Bice won the Live a Dream Award from the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce recently. This is the same award that Season 2's Ruben Studdard also received a few years ago when he won American Idol. These are two guys who literally "live a dream".

And last but not least, LaToya London of Season 3 is venturing into a new form of entertainment by trying her hand in theater. She'll be acting in Laterras R. Whitfield's new dramatic comedy called "Issues - We All Got 'Em". Keep reading Idol Chasers for more updates on dates and venues.

Clip of the Week:

Considering I haven't put out an Idol Chasers update in four weeks, I want to deliver to you four clips to check out if you have some free time on the internet.

First, if you missed Tamyra Gray, Kimberly Caldwell, Mikalah Gordon, Matthew Rogers, Anthony Fedorov and Vonzell Solomon on "The Tyra Banks Show", here you can watch the video of them performing the Tyra theme together at YouTube.com.

And if you've been missing seeing JPL lately, he has a new video on his website where you can see behind-the-scenes shots of him at "Idol Chat" and listen to him talk about how life has been after Idol: http://www.jplewismusic.com

Earlier, I talked about Bo's new music video for "The Real Thing" hitting #1 on TRL. If you'd like to see what all the talk is about, check it out: http://www.bobice.com/index.php?content=video_therealthing.

For the last clip of the week, I'm going to give you a taste of Josh Gracin's new album coming out sometime this spring/summer. His new single is called "Favorite State of Mind", and you can listen to the whole thing at AOL Music.

So while I'm keeping track of all the Idols of the past, the Top 12 of Season 5 has been revealed! Starting at the end of this season, I will be "chasing down" these twelve stars as they join the ranks of all the other Idols who have graced that beloved Pasadena stage. Here's my goodbye to all you Idol fanatics...until next time! Oh and before I forget, a happy belated birthday to Carrie Underwood - 23 years yesterday!

Signing off for Idol Chasers this week.

Appearances:

To start off the May appearances, Season 2's Josh Gracin will be visiting fairs and other venues in Uncasville, CT, Chickamauga, GA, York, PA, Danville, VA, Wichita, KS, Detroit, MI, Kennesaw, GA and Pigeon Forge, TN throughout the month. While he is still playing fair circuits and small concerts, hopefully with the debut of his second album, Josh will get right back on tour with the big dogs (he last toured with Trace Adkins and Craig Morgan).

Kimberley Locke, also from Season 2, is still making the rounds as a Lane Bryant model/celebrity spokesperson: she'll be at the Palm Desert, CA and Fox Hills, CA locations on May 20-21. Then, on May 27 and 28, she'll be performing at the Six Flags Theme Park in Springfield, MA.

Season 4's runner-up, Bo Bice, will be at KHTS in San Diego on May 5, and on "The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson" (CBS) on May 9. One of his upcoming appearances includes one also in San Diego with Carrie Underwood, so watch the next Idol Chasers for details.

Just when you thought Season 3's Diana DeGarmo couldn't get busier with all her Broadway endeavors, she takes on a performance at the Rialto Center for the Performing Arts at Georgia State University (in Atlanta), on May 12. Tickets range from $32 to $56. Meanwhile, you can also catch the spunky 18-year-old in Broadway's Hairspray, running through May 21. And it doesn't end there. Diana will then star as Brooklyn in the production of Brooklyn from June to August. There's no stopping her now!

Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood starts off her endless list of tour dates in W. Palm Beach, FL, then in Dixon, Kelseyville, and Cabazon in CA. Her last stop in May will be at Virginia Beach, VA on the 27th. But if you're nowhere near any of those spots, then you can find your favorite country girl on "VH1 Classics" on May 5 with Heart (remember "Alone"?), or on May 23 at the ACMs (live on CBS). More info on Carrie's nominations later in "Idols in the News" section.

Chart-toppers:

There hasn't been much chart activity lately, since our top two Idol girls have been holding their spots in the Top 20 of the Top 200 Billboard chart. Carrie's Some Hearts, with 23 weeks on the charts, is currently at #15 from #13 last week. Kelly Clarkson's Breakaway is 4 away at #19, the same place as last week. But with 73 weeks up there, that's surely impressive! Sadly, it seems Bo's The Real Thing is MIA from the Top 200.

On the Hot 100 Billboard chart, Kelly's single, "Walk Away", is still at #14. Another one of her singles, "Because of You", is down at #41 from #36. Strangely, at the top of the Country Singles Sales chart resides Carrie's first release from summer of 2005, "Inside Your Heaven/Independence Day". Talk about long-running success!

Rumor Mill:

Unconfirmed Rumor - Remember when I announced that Season 2's Carmen Rasmusen and Season 4's Anthony Fedorov's Fear Factor episode was airing during April? Well, since Fear Factor's cancellation, rumor has it the episode won't air until summer.

Unconfirmed Rumor - Several news sources have reported that along with Constantine (of Season 4)'s solo album and ABC sitcom, he is also working on an indie film. However, there hasn't been any other info released on this mysterious movie the budding actor could be developing.

Unconfirmed Rumor - More juicy personal gossip. TMZ.com, a leading source for dirt on Idol contestants, says that Season 4's Anthony Fedorov, who bared lots of speculation about him and, ahem, a certain blonde Idol winner last year, is now reportedly dating Season 5 Top 20 finalist, Heather Cox.

Unconfirmed Rumor - Another unconfirmed rumor about Anthony claims that he has been working on some new music videos, maybe to go along with his album that he says will be released this year.

Unconfirmed Rumor - The Return of the Velvet Teddy Bear, Season 2 winner Ruben Studdard's third album, is supposedly awaiting approval from record producer Clive Davis before it can move on in the finishing stages. But, other rumors suggest he is still collaborating with a few other artists in the recording studio.

Unconfirmed Rumor - Daughter of a Bulgarian pop star, Leah LaBelle of Season 3 has been rumored to be in talks with a music producer in LA who is interested in her. She recently visited California to meet with him, and of course, stopped by to see an Idol taping.

Unconfirmed Rumor - Musical legend Dionne Warwick has been said to have taken interest in and requested Clive Davis meet with Trenyce, of Season 2. What this means, we don't know yet, but hopefully it'll mean bigger things to come from the big-hearted diva.

Confirmed Rumors - Kimberley Locke, also from Season 2, recently declared on her website that she just wrapped up her DVD, and the new album, Based on a True Story, is also in its last stages: "As you all know, I have co-written almost the entire album, so maybe that's why I am so excited. Besides that, the songs are just amazing!" Kim also said that soon she'll be working on a new campaign for Lane Bryant and a charity.

Confirmed Rumor - Season 3's George Huff has confirmed that he is filming a music video for his single, "Miracles", with Ford and the Gospel Music Channel. Watch Idol Chasers for info about its debut.

Confirmed Rumors - According to reports, Ruben's next album will feature Ne-Yo and Scott Storch. Ruben has been working with producer Mario Winans, so this third LP is something to look forward to.

Confirmed Rumor - Meanwhile, Jessica Sierra, of Season 4, has been recording/writing with producer Nick Brophy. Nothing, however, has been confirmed about possible tracks or release dates.

Confirmed Rumor - Yes, it's true, Constantine has parted ways with the band he brought up from obscurity to, well, bigger than garage-band success. Pray for the Soul of Betty has now officially lost its lead singer, and Constantine is now officially solo. After they wrapped their tour, it seemed inevitable, so unlike last time he left, there are no hard feelings among the guys now.

Confirmed Rumor - Speaking of Constantine, Kellie Pickler of Season 5 has cleared up some circling rumors that he is her new man. She has publicly stated that she is NOT dating the long-haired Season 4 rocker. That's right, ladies, he's still single.

Confirmed Rumor - According to Nadia Turner's website, the Season 4 finalist's album is due at the end of summer, and a single should be out during the spring.

Confirmed Rumor - Another Season 4 finalist, Scott Savol, has announced that his album in-the-works "wasn't going in the direction I wanted to go". More simply said, there was too much hip-hop and too little soul. Scott has expressed his goals of creating adult contemporary music, and therefore will be pushing the release date of his album later, after five months and nine songs already.

Idols in the News:

After a van full of film equipment was robbed, Vonzell Solomon's role as a store clerk in a new indie film called "Still Green" seemed in jeopardy. But, the Season 4 finalist finally finished filming the scene in South Carolina this month, and the movie is slated for a December release.

Vonzell isn't the only one who's trying her hand in cinema, though. Nadia Turner is venturing out and is on the cast list for a new independent romantic comedy called "A Taste of Us". There are little details available, but the release date so far is TBA 2006.

"First of all, thank you fans so much for voting for me again. You have no idea what it means to me." Carrie Underwood seemed surprised to take home two CMT Music Awards at the show this month, but she shouldn't have been. The awards were fan-voted, and we all know how many people voted for her at last year's finale. Carrie won for Breakthrough Video of the Year, awarded to newbies in the business, but also beat out country legends Faith Hill, Sara Evans, and newcomer Miranda Lambert for the Female Video of the Year award. Carrie's wins even prompted Jay DeMarcus (of Rascal Flatts) to take a jab at her when his band won for Group/Duo Video of the Year. "We're glad Jesus didn't have the wheel in this category," he grinned at her from the stage.

Of course, Carrie and Rascal Flatts go way back, to last year's unforgettable finale. In March, they together announced the nominations for the Academy of Country Music awards, in which both received four each, making Carrie the top female nominee. Her four nominations: Top Female Vocalist, Top New Female Vocalist, Single Record of the Year, and Song of the Year (the two latter for "Jesus Take the Wheel"). See if Carrie wins on the ACM Awards, more info in the Appearances section.

And while we're on the subject of Carrie winning stuff, it's mentionable to say that while George Huff of Season 3 had three Gospel Music Award nominations, "Jesus Take the Wheel" became the only Idol win this year, for Country Recorded Song of the Year.

Season 3's Jasmine Trias' career is absolutely skyrocketing in the Philippines, where she is frequently featured on magazine covers and TV shows. However, she was recently nominated for three Na Hoku Hanohano Awards: Female Vocalist of the Year, Most Promising Artist(s) of the Year, and Contemporary Album of the Year. The Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts gives the Na Hoku Hanohano Awards every year. The awards will take place on May 31 and will be broadcasted on TV in Hawaii.

While Jennifer Hudson, from Season 3, is filming "Dreamgirls", Trenyce, whom she beat out in auditions, is starring in a theatrical production of it in Indianapolis this June, for a run of six weeks.

Randy Jackson, American Idol judge, is the last of the judges to sign on for at least another three years of Idol fun. Before the fifth season began, Paula Abdul signed a contract for three more years, while Simon Cowell's scuffle with creator Simon Fuller resulted in a five-year contract. So, this means we're keeping the Three Musketeers around for three more years. And if worse comes to worse and we lose two judges after those three years, at least we'll have Simon.

You've probably read the headlines: Bo's Bar Brawl. This probably should be in the Rumor Mill section, but it's not. According to eyewitnesses, Bo Bice threw a punch at an ex-NFL linebacker in a New York club. Some sources say the 6-foot-5", 300-lb man simply asked Bo if he was Bo Bice, Bo instead responded by saying his name was Kevin, and then while drunk tried to punch the guy. Other sources say the ex-football pro was harassing the tipsy rocker, and made Bo irritated. Either way, publicists and Bo himself are dodging questions about the incident. Hopefully this won't dent any reputations...

Just as a little update about what other Idols are doing to keep the peace...Ruben Studdard is starting a new program for underprivileged Alabama kids called the Music Alternative Project. The program, which is set up in a Birmingham recording studio, will help kids learn the ins and outs of the music business, and prepare them for successful careers as adults.

Jessica Sierra is, meanwhile, working with the Stalking Resource Center. After a traumatic experience with a stalker last year, Jessica is planning on a launching an awareness campaign for the National Center for Victims of Crime.

If you get a chance to visit the Alabama Music Hall of Fame, chances are you'll get to see some very famous and valuable items of clothing, worn by the one and only, Bo Bice. Bo's grandmother, who sews all his stage clothes, graciously donated a few of her grandson's American Idol outfits to the museum to put on display. The memorabilia includes the clothes Bo wore during his first performance on Idol ("Drift Away").

And last but not least, he's a football player, singer, TV personality, and now, father: congratulations to Matt Rogers (of Season 3) and his wife, Teri, on the birth of their new baby boy, Braden, who entered the world on April 16! Braden, Matt and Teri have just joined the family of nine other "Idol kids" and their parents - a number that is sure to grow as the years go by.

Clip of the Week:

For my first clip, I'm encouraging you to visit Lindsey Cardinale's MySpace (at www.myspace.com/lindseycardinale) and listen to her new single. There aren't any details on a release yet, but the website's there for you to listen.

Recently, Carrie Underwood recorded a "stripped", or acoustic, version of four of her songs: "Jesus Take the Wheel", "Don't Forget to Remember Me", "Before He Cheats", and "Some Hearts". Also included is a stripped version of Carrie singing Rascal Flatts' "Bless the Broken Road", the same song she sang with the band at the finale (didn't I tell you she had a strong connection with those guys?). The arrangements and Carrie's voice are amazing, and the videos are great too. It's all for the viewing at www.strippedmusic.com.

Well, that's it for now. By the time the next update comes out, we might just have a new American Idol, but of course, our former favorites live on, unforgotten. With one last shout-out to Braden, Matt, Teri, and everyone else...

Signing off for this week's Idol Chasers.

While I was skeptical of all the Fox celebrity plants in the audience during the course of the season, seeing David Boreanz with his kid whooping it up last night made me wonder if they just love the show and go because they can.

I wouldn't necessarily say it's only that they love the show, but I don't think they're planted. They're there to be seen, caught on camera, refresh America's minds to the fact that they're out there and need work.

That said, one of my coworkers was just telling me that she was supposed to go to the finale last night, as she also works as a seat filler. She didn't go, but apparently, they get a lot of celebrity no-shows who requested tickets, so they've gotta have people ready to fill those seats.

Obviously a lot of you folks like this show, as do millions of Americans. However, I have to put in my 2 cents here, then I'll go back into obscurity.

American Idol, in my OPINION, is one of the worst shows on television. I cannot understand why it has such a cult following. I understand why SOME people would like it, but I'm having a hard time getting my arms around it's extreme popularity.

Jay Leno (aka the guy that won) is an average singer at best. And the runner up was just as bad. At least the chick was hot. I say straight to porn for her sweet ass.

So that's it fellas. Please try to help me understand the fascination with this cult phenomenon called "American Idol", because I think it totally sucks ass. Thank you.

I, too, have been shaking my head about this. I really just don't get it. I'm especially surprised by the number of men who enjoy this show... I would've thought it would appeal more to teens and women.

It's pretty simple. Just as important as finding people America will like is finding people America can hate. People start tuning in week after week hoping this is the week that Ace Young FINALLY gets voted off. Nope. Maybe THIS week... and so on... once it finally happens, you're hooked.

Judging from the opinions around here, these contestants are really polarizing. People loved Taylor and watched each week rooting for him to go on, or they were sick and tired of Taylor and watched each week hoping for him to "have a bad day". Either way, Fox wins.

Well for me I always say I am not going to watch it each season but I watch the auditions just to see the freaks and idiots come out and actually think they have a shot.

Now the problem with this is... You see the process of them from auditioning to going thru each step that you get hooked. For me this year it was Chris Daughtry that I am a heavy metal guy myself and I really enjoyed his singing. I was hooked but the majority of the season it was fast forwarding thru just to hear Chris and watch the hotties!

One thing to add from last night. Pickler is hot but that whole thing with Wolfgang last night was stupid!

I did like seeing the cowboys back from earlier this season.

But doesn't that just turn the whole thing into some circus side show? I understand the entertainment value of the show when it first begins, because there are so many people that have NO BUSINESS singing that make it kinda funny. But once you weed out the scrubs, shouldn't the remaining contestants be judged on their merits?

Hey, maybe it's just me. I certainly seem to be in the minority because it looks like most of you guys really like this show. In fact, I was shocked to hear that almost 64 million people actually took the time to vote for this thing. It's a pretty damning indictment of the American public when only 110 million voted in the last presidential election.

For Christ sakes, Hasselhoff cried when he found out that Jay Leno won the damn thing. What the hell is going on???

Taylor Hicks is the man. He is not cookie cutter anything. The rockers are typical rockers, the pop singers fit their tired old mold too. The country guy is a typical country guy. But Taylor Hicks is unique, has a great voice, and a very entertaining personality.

I posted this on March 3rd. :toast: woohoo

It's not often I get these right, although my 12 yo daughter picked Carrie Underwood last year at about the same stage.

I thought they dragged the show on way too long last night though. I watched the Sox get their butts handed to them during the 20 minute commercial breaks.

I have no idea why I watch this stupid show other than the kids want to watch it so Dad gets sucked in. Overall I think it is lame but sort of entertaining at the same time.

Oh well, no more 24, no more Idol, only Sox and BBQs left for me until football camps open...

I suspect it may appeal to people seeing regular-joes getting a chance at stardom. You know, the whole "that could be me" thing. I dunno... maybe I should give it a shot. I only watched it once and thought, nah, not interested.

Course, the whole reality show genre's popularity surprises me, too. Surely people know those things are scripted for entertainment value (IMO).

Ah well... different strokes for different folks. Like spinal said, I and he appear to be in the minority. Good thing I've got satellite - I can watch what the rest of the world is missing. :D

Knight Rider crying like a little baby. Can't buy entertainment like that! :thumb:

This is the first season I've ever watched Idol, other than a couple episodes in the past, and I think what got me hooked was that there were so many contestants who were pretty unique, rather than the cookie cutter Christina Aguilera clones. I'll admit it. I liked Taylor a lot in his auditions, before they made him all polished and safe in Hollywood. I loved Mandisa. I liked Paris's throwback jazz voice.

I don't listen to pop music. My favorite bands are Morphine, the Replacements, and Portishead. I was shocked to hear singers who I enjoyed.

Damn I missed the hasselhoff bit as I noticed my Dave Mordal comedian from MN was sitting behind him and had thought that was cool. I guess I will have to check that out.

Wow, this is one determined rat

Rat Cuts Power, Ruins 'Idol' for Thousands
By Associated Press

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - About 9,500 Riverside residents found themselves in the dark after a rat chewed through power equipment at a substation.

The rodent had to gnaw through two barriers before it reached the 12,000-volt equipment that it shorted out on Tuesday night, Public Utilities deputy director Steve Badgett said.

"We found him. What was left of him," Badgett said.

The rat made it to the live wires despite traps and rat poison placed in the substation, he said.

Some 1,100 customers went without power until early Wednesday morning.

Badgett said he braced for the worst when he realized that residents lost their power just as the semifinalists of "American Idol" were to perform on television.

Well ST, here's my cop out excuse. My wife watched the show long before I ever did. I find that if I watch the few shows that she's interested in (AI, Survivor, Lost etc etc) with her, she does a lot less complaining when I put the Sox game on.

I will freely admit that after watching the show for most of the season two years ago, it kind of grew on me. It is very entertaining at times.

Speaking of entertainment, I was hoping we might get to see Mr. "Can You Dig It" last night but apparently he's made it to the big time somewhere doing who knows what. That friggin' guy was hilarious last season.

Seeing the Clay Aiken clone go into a catatonic stupor when the real Clay Aiken showed up was hilarious. I couldn't believe what they have done with the guy. He looks nothing like he used to.
for you Hawg

I missed this, I clicked over to the sox game. But, after viewing it, it has to be one the funniest moments on TV. An instant classic!

Okay.... So I went to this wedding reception Sat night, which ended waaayyy too early. 10:00. Luckily the place is kind of a resort - Hotel, restaurant, banquet rooms, lounge... So we ended up in the lounge where they had this trio playing. Bass, keyboard and singer. Mostly 40s & 50s stuff.

So we're sitting there for about fifteen minutes when these 3 kids(18-19), wearing jeans and sweatshirts or long sleeved shirts walk in and sit down on one of the couches. My husband keeps making comments like "I think they're lost." After the 3rd or 4th song I look over and I see one of the kids singing along and I point it out to the hubby. "Wow.. Look... He actually knows Sinatra songs." Hubby is just at a loss. I point out that it's good to see that there are some kids out there that still appreciate that type of music.

The trio was taking requests ( the kids actually requested "Paper Moon" which isn't exactly a popular song, even though I love it ) and one of the kids has a request... Can his buddy sing a song. The guy says they usually don't do that but asks what song the kid wants to sing. "Summer Wind". Then one of the other kids says... "He was on American Idol."

The kid gets up, and I'm staring at him... Hair is down over the ears and I'm trying to think of who it is... Then he starts singing... It's the kid from last season from Crystal Lake, IL - David Radford. The Frank Sintra kid. You know, the kid with the adorable dimples. (At least that's what Paula kept talking about. But he does have cute dimples. )

The kid does have a great voice. He sounded about twenty times better than the guy in the trio. Went over to him afterwards and talked to him for a bit. He's working on a demo right now and he's got some connections out in Hollywood ( I'm sure from the show ) that he's going to be sending it to. Hey, if Michael Buble can make it, the kid's got a chance. Especially since Radford is much cuter than Buble. ;)

Anyway... Just thought I'd share that little story, even though I know most people around here weren't big on him.
