We can worry about that later, once we are sure on what we are doing, and I'll be honest about the costs involved.

I had to upgrade my hosting plan just about a half hour ago because I was already out of disk space from just staging the site, but the monthly costs are not exorbitant.

Additionally, there will be a one time charge for software if we decide to upgrade all the way.

FWIW, I disappeared for a while after I retired (over a year ago), and was basically traveling, dancing & DJing Argentine tango (my other big hobby), and enjoying life. I actually was in Argentina when the COVID stuff blew up in the US, although I made it back fine.

Several people have offered to help with the finances for the upgrade, and it's really appreciated. I think we actually have it covered, but we need to discuss it more, in case there are differing opinions. In any case, some of us did well financially over the years, (although I'm certainly capable of screwing up down the road). :shrug_n:

In any case, it's looking like we'll be on the new server much quicker than I thought, (due to UT working around the clock). What can I say? The guy is driven. As usual, my management skills (basically doing as little as possible), came into play, once again.

Right after you posted this I skipped over to Youtube to checkout the argentine tango. Watched a pile of video. Awesome, Sex is in the air. And I loved this one though I have no judging credentials here whatever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIyY7fqCcis

Gavito, was one of the great dancers (that performance must have been decades ago). Performers sometimes exaggerate aspects of the dance (in addition to being way more skilled than us social dancers are).

Here's an example of what social dancers look like, at a place I like in Buenos Aires, (dancing cheek to cheek, as is commonly done).

I don't know how many took a look, but a few of you did. I didn't receive any feedback of any issues, so my plan today is the upgrade over there to the newer versions of vbulletin. Except their site is down for maintenance now, so I can't download it. Figures.

One thing everyone should know is if we move there, we will lose the last few days of posts here.

I haven't read this whole thread yet, but I'm on a few forums that use Invision for their forums. I know it's not free but I also know it has the most powerful plugins available these days.

I don't even know if this is the primary Pats forum or not, it's the only one i post on and you guys have made me fee lat home here - even as little as I actually contribute, so whatever you do, I'm coming along for the ride!

Well, that was the plan. Vbulletin.com is down for 'maintenance.'

So I am in limbo for now.

Once I can get in there and get my downloads, I think I have decided to upgrade to the last version of 4 for now. I am reading a lot of mixed things on version 5. 4 was the last version produced by Jellsoft before they were bought out by Internet Brands.

Hopefully sometime later today or over the weekend.

It is a copy of here as of yesterday morning. The reason I opened it up to access is for everyone to take a look and help me make sure most everything looks to be running as it should.

The next step is to upgrade the version of vbulletin there. I may try out a couple of different versions for everyone to kick the tires on.

Once we decide what we want to do, we would then make the transition live.

So, continue to post here (with the knowledge that a few days worth of posts may not be carried over), but feel free to post and play around on that site to make sure it works properly.

As soon as we all agree on what we want to do, we will make it happen.

Minor update this morning. The new site now uses SSL certs (https) which is more secure than not (http).
