Silly Beagle, that's because Duane Allman was in that band. Where do you think they got the name "Derek" from? Duane and Eric.

Much of the guitar work in that band was Duane not Eric.

Clapton expanded his songwriting skills and stagecraft quite a bit after his stint with Delaney and Bonnie.

That may have been his best "in-band" effort.

Clapton was nicknamed Derek during his Delaney and Bonnie days, and Clapton and Allman 'dueled' in much of the guitar work.
