For about 2 months my phone will suddenly activate its GPS feature. I leave it off because it uses a ton of battery and there really is no need to ever have it on.

Can anyone tell me why it would do this by itself? Definitely annoying when I find it on with a near dead battery.

No. At first I thought maybe Facebook, but I don't have it give my exact location, ever. It turned itself on again this morning before I had both eyes open.

Is there anyway that someone could be triggering it? I know that sounds paranoid, but can anyone do that so they can figure out where you are? My car has GPS and On Star so if there is any traffic/accident issue, they get notified first through that. That's the primary reason I don't need my phone to do it.

Not sure what type of device you have, but if it's an iPhone look at the following.

Under General look at background app refresh. Any app that has a blue chevron will use GPS.

Next check privacy and location services.

Any app listed here could turn on your GPS.

Thanks you guys!! I think I figured it out!
