Well, since we no longer have an 'Other Sports' thread and there are few folks that venture to Sox Planet, I'll post it here. Unofficially, spring has sprung. :)

Red Sox Truck Day Is Here!

BOSTON (CBS) — Snow is on the ground, but spring is in the air in Boston.

Wednesday is “Truck Day” at Fenway Park, a sure sign that warmer times are just around the corner.

Crews will begin loading the goods onto the Red Sox’ equipment truck around 7 a.m., including the following:

20,400 baseballs
1,100 bats
200 batting gloves
200 batting helmets
320 Batting Practice tops
160 white game jerseys
300 pairs of pants
400 t-shirts
400 pairs of socks
20 cases of bubble gum
60 cases of sunflower seeds

The equipment truck will begin its voyage around noon, and for the 18th straight year Milford native Al Hartz will be behind the wheel for the 1,480-mile trip to the Red Sox’ spring training facilities in Fort Myers, Florida. It will be escorted out of the Fenway area by a flat-bed truck carrying Red Sox mascot Wally the Green Monster, his sister Tessie, and Fenway Ambassadors, who will be handing out schedules for the 2016 season.

“Truck Day,” the unofficial start of spring training, has been a Red Sox tradition since 2003. Red Sox pitchers and catchers are due to report on February 18, while position players have to arrive by February 23. The team’s first full-squad workout will be held on February 24.

Let's just hope those balls are properly inflated.

The most overrated day in the Boston sports calendar. Let's all wave to the truck

Anything that heralds the arrival of warmer weather is worth celebrating.

With apologies to Rabbi Cahn, it's an harbinger. I love harbingers. Robins used to be my spring harbinger. Then I figured out that, in general, truck day comes sooner.

Cheers, BostonTim

In defense of Truck Day, isn't it more than just :wave:ing to a truck? Don't they give away t-shirts and baseballs 'n stuff?
