Patriots Free Agency 2023

My top FA for the Pats if the price is right.

Orlando Brown, LT, age 27
Jessie Bates, FS, age 26
Daron Payne, DT, age 26
Jamel Dean, CB, age 26
Jakobi Meyers, WR, age 26
Tremaine Edmunds, MLB, age 25
Damien Harris, RB, age 26

.

Mike Reiss gets into the Jakobi Meyers and Jon Jones FA scenarios.

Jon Jones can go since they spent a pick last year to get Marcus Jones who can fill the slot. Then get a true CB1 since Jon isn’t it.

Meyers should keep. 50M/4 hopefully gets it done. The only reliable offensive weapon besides Mondre. Other teams usually do not overpay for former Patriot receivers

Jones can play strong safety if needed. If the rest of the NFL agrees with you that he's just a slot corner than he won't get more than ~9MM per, probably less than that. Keep him at that price?

Meyers is going to run more than 12.5 per! Talk is running more like 15 per and up. My bet is that it's right in the 15 range, not much higher than that.

That’s awesome Jon can play SS. Except we have too many strong safeties - Dugger, Philips, Peppers. So no point keeping Jon. We need a CB1 and FS and Jon Jones is not great at either of these.

I meant free/post safety, not strong. And he can and has played there in the past.

If BB decides to sign a FS in free agency, the name I keep hearing is FS Jessie Bates, Bengals. 26 years old. All-Pro.
But the Falcons are interested in him, too, and they have twice the cap space the Pats have.

You don’t hear very often at the Falcons have a lot of cap space.

Meyers is a dependable #2 or #3 WR. He isn't worth overpaying in my opinion. I'm not saying that he sucks. I'm only saying that he has a low ceiling. He's limited to what he can do...unless you want me to include the last play vs the Raiduhs last year. :coffee:

I truly feel that a better use of Bourne could potentially elevate both he and Meyers.

Listening to what the XM radio jockeys were saying this weekend they think there are couple of teams that will pay him 15+. The specifically named the Pokes.

North of 12M I think he is gone, gone, gone. Sucks. Should extended him last year for what 9M max?

I think he's gone too.

I think I have said this before but speculating on the FA market value of WRs is my absolute kryptonite. Whatever I think a WR is worth, someone will ultimately give that player 30% or more when they sign him.
