Nothing says "funny" like a guy getting blown to bits.

Not so much funny as it is ironic that due to mortar tracking technology the U.S. possesses, troops were able to hone in the insurgent's precise location just from him firing 2-3 rounds.

for some reason i read this as "admiral akbar fail"

I'd say that was a bad round blowing up in the mortar not anyone shooting at him.

Maybe, Maybe not. I've read some responses to the video elsewhere that you can hear the U.S. firing before the explosion. I turned up the volume and can't hear it myself, so you may be right. But there is information about this technology existing on the internet.

That man was a humanitarian aid worker.

Didn't you people get the memo that fooled most of the world?

Counterbattery radar has existed since the 70's so there is nothing new about that. And if they are prepared and ready they can home in on the bad guys fairly quickly. But its unlikely to be in general operation against a possible attack like that. You can't keep your guns crewed endlessly against possible random shots so it takes a couple minutes for them to scramble and prep the guns even if they're deployed and ready to fire. Nobody leaves live rounds in artillery gun tubes when they are not actively crewed so they have to ready the gun, load and fire. Won't happen in the few seconds the mortar was firing unless everything was in place at the right time in the right way.

Well it really wasn't my intent to post a political thread. But sometimes one forgets how divided our country is over the whole issue of whether we should be there or not.

For me, it's all about supporting our troops. Many of those there would not be there if they could choose. But they certainly don't need to hear all of the bickering that goes on back here in the states while they risk their lives wearing the uniform.
